Diagnosing Sjögren syndrome (SS) in elderly patients can be challenging due to factors like aging, comorbidities, or medication effects, which can mimic symptoms of the disease.
A study analyzed 323 SS patients over 18 years, finding that those over 65 (35 patients) had an earlier diagnosis and experienced more fatigue, but showed different immune markers and treatment approaches compared to younger patients.
While elderly patients with SS don't appear to represent a distinct group, their care requires careful consideration due to their increased vulnerability and the complexity of managing their health.
