Background: Obstructive complications in the Fontan circulation pose significant risks to affected patients. Traditional management strategies may be insufficient, necessitating innovative treatment approaches. This case report discusses the use of the FlowTriever Retrieval System for percutaneous aspiration thrombectomy in a patient with a history of Fontan procedure who developed conduit obstruction due to thrombus formation.

Background: The purpose of the study was to analyze the appearance of pelvic obliquity before total hip arthroplasty (THA) in adults who have Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD) sequelae and its evolution in the first two postoperative years, identifying which factors influence its development.

Methods: The THAs performed between 2012 and 2021 at a single institution in adults who had LCPD during childhood were retrospectively identified. Each case was matched 1:1, based on age at surgery, sex, and body mass index, with a primary THA performed for hip osteoarthritis (primary OA).

Hemophilia A (HA) patients under emicizumab prophylaxis may require the concomitant use of procoagulant factors for breakthrough bleedings or immune tolerance induction (ITI). The aim of this study is to evaluate the ex vivo procoagulant effect of plasma-derived FVIII concentrates containing von Willebrand factor (pdFVIII/VWF) in samples from patients with severe HA without inhibitors on emicizumab prophylaxis. Samples from healthy controls (HC) and HA patients were drawn in sodium citrate plus corn trypsin inhibitor tubes and spiked with increasing concentrations of pdFVIII/VWF concentrates (10-400 IU/dL) (Fanhdi/Alphanate, Grifols), activated prothrombin complex concentrate (aPCC, 0.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a herpesvirus capable of establishing lifelong latent infections, leading to a wide spectrum of diseases. It can affect multiple organs, including the gastrointestinal tract, typically through lymphoproliferative syndromes or gastric cancer, while acute gastrointestinal disease is rare and poorly understood. Two cases of EBV-induced acute colitis in kidney transplant recipients were described.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a neoplasm with a high prevalence worldwide, with a multimodal treatment that includes a combination of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery in locally advanced stages with acceptable pathological complete response (pCR) rates, this has improved with the introduction of total neoadjuvant therapy (TNT) reaching pCR rates up to 37% in compare with classic neoadjuvant treatment (NAT) where pCR rates of around 20-25% are achieved. However, the patient population that benefits most from this therapy has not been determined, and there is a lack of biomarkers that can predict the course of the disease. Multiple biomarkers have been studied, ranging from hematological and molecular markers by imaging technique and combinations of them, with contradictory results that prevent their use in routine clinical practice.

Electronic address:

Topic Importance: Asthma is a common multifaceted respiratory disease with a major impact on quality of life. Despite increased insights into mechanisms underlying various asthma phenotypes/endotypes and the availability of targeted biologic treatment options, a substantial proportion of patients remains uncontrolled with risk of exacerbations, requiring systemic corticosteroids, and progressive disease. Current international guidelines advocate a personalized management approach to patients with uncontrolled severe asthma.

Unlabelled: Early debridement of partial-thickness burns and coverage with skin substitutes is currently the standard of care in children, although there is currently no "gold standard" skin substitute. Our aim is to compare the effectiveness of three different skin substitutes, analyzing the medium- and long-term outcomes.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on burn patients under 18 years admitted to our Burn Unit between 2015 and 2021, who were divided into 3 groups according to the type of skin substitute used (EZ-derm®, Biobrane®, and Suprathel®).

In the last three decades, ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) has become an evidence-based safe and efficacious treatment for managing the most common cardiac arrhythmia. In 2007, the first joint expert consensus document was issued, guiding healthcare professionals involved in catheter or surgical AF ablation. Mounting research evidence and technological advances have resulted in a rapidly changing landscape in the field of catheter and surgical AF ablation, thus stressing the need for regularly updated versions of this partnership which were issued in 2012 and 2017.

Electronic address:

Protein-protein interactions (PPIs) form complex cellular networks fundamental to many key biological processes, including signal transduction, cell proliferation and DNA repair. In consequence, their perturbation is often associated with many human diseases. Targeting PPIs offers a promising approach in drug discovery and ongoing advancements in this field hold the potential to provide highly specific therapies for a wide range of complex diseases.

Background: Vestibular schwannomas (VS) are complex and heterogeneous human tumors arising from the Schwann cell compartment of the vestibulocochlear nerve. VS cause significant neurological deficit such as hearing loss and vestibular impairment, and in some cases death due to brainstem compression. There is an urgent need to find pharmacotherapies for VS since surgical removal and stereotactic radiosurgery are the only effective treatments.

Purpose: The main objective of this study was to compare laryngeal dystonia (LD) and vocal tremor's (VT) response to botulinum toxin injection.

Methods: Retrospective study including every patient with LD or VT injected with botulinum toxin guided by electromyography, from January 1, 2010, to September 30, 2022, at a tertiary hospital centre. Improvement was assessed with the VHI-10, grade of dysphonia in a visual analogue scale (VAS; 0-10), GRBAS(I) scale (0-3) and maximum phonation time (MPT).

Introduction: Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors (COXIBS) are considered a suitable option for the treatment of hemophilic arthropathy.

Areas Covered: The role of traditional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; (NSAIDS) and COXIBS in people with hemophilia (PWH) and in the non-hemophiliac population has been reviewed in order to know which of them is more advisable in PWH and whether they should be used as the first or second therapeutic step for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain (since there is a discrepancy between what is advised by the WFH and the WHO).

Expert Opinion: For the treatment of chronic musculoskeletal pain related to hemophilic arthropathy, it is reasonable to use as a first step a combination of oral paracetamol (650 mg per every 6 h) or metamizole (575 mg per every 6 h), one of the COXIBS (e.

  • - Uterine sarcomas with KAT6B/A::KANSL1 fusion are a new type of tumor that show a mix of traits from low-grade endometrial stromal sarcomas and smooth muscle tumors, which can confuse initial diagnoses.
  • - A study involving 9 such cases found common features like expression of smooth muscle and endometrial stromal markers, as well as the presence of the KAT6B/A::KANSL1 fusion in all tumors.
  • - Despite their bland appearance, these tumors can be aggressive, with some patients experiencing severe outcomes, underscoring the need for accurate recognition and diagnosis for better treatment approaches.

Objective: Respiratory infections are a major cause of hospitalization in children with tracheostomies, contributing significantly to hospital expenses. Limited data exist to describe optimal diagnostic strategies or management recommendations for these infections. This study aimed to explore factors associated with antibiotic therapy, including usage, administration route, duration, variables influencing the decision to prescribe antibiotics, and outcomes in children with tracheostomies experiencing episodes of respiratory infection other than pneumonia (tracheobronchitis and nonspecific respiratory episodes [NSRE]).
