Objectives: (1) To assess how main pulmonary artery peak Doppler velocity (MPAVpeak) correlates with right ventricular output (RVO) and superior vena cava flow (SVCf), (2) to assess the reproducibility of MPAVpeak and (3) to test the prognostic accuracy of MPAVpeak to predict high-grade intraventricular haemorrhage (IVH) or death at seventh day of life.

Patients with chronic hypoxia show a higher tumor incidence; however, no primary common cause has been recognized. Given the similarities between cellular reprogramming and oncogenic transformation, we directly compared these processes in human cells subjected to hypoxia. Mouse embryonic fibroblasts were employed as controls to compare transfection and reprogramming efficiency; human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells were employed as controls in human cells.

Objectives: To evaluate the external validity of the FINDRISC, DESIR and ADA risk scores for the prediction of diabetes in a Spanish population aged >45 years and to test the possible improvement of FINDRISC by adding a new variable of high risk of depression when Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) questionnaire score ≥10 (FINDRISC-MOOD).

There is an urgent need to address the shortage of potential multivisceral grafts in order to reduce the average time in waiting list. Since donation after circulatory death (DCD) has been successfully employed for other solid organs, a thorough evaluation of the use of intestinal grafts from DCD is warranted. Stevens‒Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis (SJS/TEN) are severe cutaneous adverse drug reactions characterized by widespread keratinocyte cell death and epidermal detachment. At present, there is little understanding of how the detachment occurs or how it is abrogated by the TNF-α inhibitor etanercept, an effective SJS/TEN treatment. We validated the quality of patient-reported data by comparing it with data obtained from hospital electronic records, pharmacy dispensing records and patient interview, collected in an access database used as a reference.

Objective: To determine whether a gout polygenic risk score (PRS) is associated with age at gout onset and tophaceous disease in European, East Polynesian, and West Polynesian men and women with gout.
Methods: A 19-variant gout PRS was produced in 7 European gout cohorts (N = 4,016), 2 East Polynesian gout cohorts (N = 682), and 1 West Polynesian gout cohort (N = 490). Sex-stratified regression models were used to estimate the relationship between the PRS and age at gout onset and tophaceous disease.

Adipose-derived stem cells are a subtype of mesenchymal stem cell that offers the important advantage of being easily obtained (in an autologous manner) from low invasive procedures, rendering a high number of multipotent stem cells with the potential to differentiate into several cellular lineages, to show immunomodulatory properties, and to promote tissue regeneration by a paracrine action through the secretion of extracellular vesicles containing trophic factors. This secretome is currently being investigated as a potential source for a cell-free based regenerative therapy for human tissues, which would significantly reduce the involved costs, risks and law regulations, allowing for a broader application in real clinical practice. In the current article, we will review the existing preclinical and human clinical evidence regarding the use of such adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells for the regeneration of the three main layers of the human cornea: the epithelium (derived from the surface ectoderm), the stroma (derived from the neural crest mesenchyme), and the endothelium (derived from the neural crest cells).

Pathogenic variants in the AP4B1 gene lead to a rare form of hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) known as SPG47. We report on a patient with a clinical suspicion of complicated HSP of the lower limbs with intellectual disability, as well as a novel homozygous noncanonical splice site variant in the AP4B1 gene, in which the effect on splicing was validated by RNA analysis. Historically, primordial germ cells (PGCs) have been a good model to study pluripotency. X-linked myotubular myopathy (XLMTM; OMIM 310400) is a centronuclear congenital muscular disorder of X-linked recessive inheritance. Although female carriers are typically asymptomatic, affected heterozygous females have been described.
