Article Synopsis
  • Telemonitoring (TM) of home non-invasive ventilation (NIV) was studied to see if it reduces dropout rates compared to non-telemonitoring (NTM) methods among adults with chronic respiratory failure.
  • The study included 659 adults, with results showing that only 13% of the TM group discontinued therapy after one year, compared to 34% in the NTM group, indicating TM's effectiveness in increasing compliance.
  • Additionally, patients using TM had better usage rates (more than 4 hours per day) and improved leak control at various follow-up points, suggesting overall better management of their treatment.

Introduction: Neural crest cells (NCCs) are multipotent and are attributed to the combination of complex multimodal gene regulatory mechanisms. Cardiac neural crest (CNC) cells, originating from the dorsal neural tube, are pivotal architects of the cardio-neuro-vascular domain, which orchestrates the embryogenesis of critical cardiac and vascular structures. Remarkably, while the scientific community compiled a comprehensive inventory of neural crest derivatives by the early 1980s, our understanding of the CNC's role in various cardiovascular disease processes still needs to be explored.

Introduction: Symptoms and functional limitation are frequently reported by survivors of acute pulmonary embolism (PE). However, current guidelines provide no specific recommendations on which patients should be followed after acute PE, when follow-up should be performed, and which tests it should include. Definition and classification of late PE sequelae are evolving, and their predictors remain to be determined.

J Am Coll Cardiol

March 2017

Pulmonology and Intensive Care Service, Georges Pompidou European Hospital, Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris, Paris, France; Paris Descartes University, Sorbonne Paris Cité, Paris, France; INSERM UMR S 970, Paris, France (INNOVTE, France).

Background: The long-term effect of thrombolytic treatment of pulmonary embolism (PE) is unknown.

Objectives: This study investigated the long-term prognosis of patients with intermediate-risk PE and the effect of thrombolytic treatment on the persistence of symptoms or the development of late complications.

Methods: The PEITHO (Pulmonary Embolism Thrombolysis) trial was a randomized (1:1) comparison of thrombolysis with tenecteplase versus placebo in normotensive patients with acute PE, right ventricular (RV) dysfunction on imaging, and a positive cardiac troponin test result.

Objectives: To describe steroid-sparing in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients treated with tocilizumab (TCZ).

Methods: To evaluate the proportion of RA patients treated with more than 5 mg of prednisone (or equivalent)/day and starting TCZ who can receive less than 5 mg/day after 12 months without intensification of disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs), we conducted a non-interventional, multicentre, prospective study from 2011 to 2013. We included patients with moderate-to-severe RA, >18 years old, starting TCZ and receiving corticosteroids (GCs) at a dose greater than 5 mg/day of prednisone for at least 3 months.

It is common practice in many centers to offer antithrombotic medications to women with unexplained recurrent miscarriage, in the presence or absence of inherited thrombophilia. Although no benefit of aspirin vs placebo has been clearly demonstrated, a double-blind placebo-controlled trial on the effect of low-molecular-weight heparin is lacking. We enrolled 258 pregnant women with a history of unexplained recurrent miscarriage (≥2 consecutive miscarriages before 15 weeks' gestation) and a negative thrombophilia workup.
