Comparative assessment of the efficacy and safety of sertaconazole (2%) cream versus terbinafine cream (1%) versus luliconazole (1%) cream in patients with dermatophytoses: a pilot study.

Background: Sertaconazole is a new, broad spectrum, fungicidal and fungistatic imidazole with added antipruritic and anti-inflammatory activity that would provide greater symptomatic relief and hence would be beneficial in improving the quality of life for the patient with dermatophytoses.

Aims And Objectives: To compare efficacy and safety of sertaconazole, terbinafine and luliconazole in patients with dermatophytoses.

Materials And Methods: 83 patients with tinea corporis and tinea cruris infections were enrolled in this multicentre, randomized, open label parallel study.

Duodenal leiomyoma--a rare cause of haematemesis.

Leiomyoma of the duodenum is a rare tumour. Small intestinal tumours contributing to upper gastrointestinal bleed is still rare. They usually present with malena and anaemia, rarely hematemesis.

Disseminated cryptococcal infection in immune competent patients.

Cryptococcal meningeal or cerebral infection has become an increasing global problem.(1) In this respect there are many anacedotal Indian case reports.(2) More than 50% of CNS infections occur in immunosuppressed patients and other debilitating conditions.

Intraoperative radiofrequency microbipolar coagulation to replace incisions of maze III procedure for correcting atrial fibrillation in patients with rheumatic valvular disease.

Objective: Radiofrequency catheter ablation of atrial tachycardias and flutter is an established technique. The same modality in the microbipolar mode is effective in producing full thickness coagulation injury. Cox's maze procedure is highly successful in curing atrial fibrillation (AF) surgically.

Squatting position for delivery.

The study was conducted on 200 normal pregnant women who were randomly classified into 2 groups of 100 cases each. The control group comprised mothers in supine position throughout labour and delivery (46 primigravidae and 54 multigravidae). The squatting group consisted of cases who were kept ambulatory during the 1st stage and were asked to squat on ordinary delivery cots during the 2nd stage of labour.
