Gastric heterotopia (GH) is a rare cause of gastrointestinal bleeding. GH of the small bowel is rare, and the duodenum is more commonly involved than the jejunum. Here, we present five cases of GH involving the duodenum and jejunum, with presentations including gastrointestinal bleeding, symptomatic anemia, and no symptoms.

Grapes, belonging to the genus , are one of the world's most economically valuable fruit crops, which are widely used as the source of wine, raisins, and juice. The genus contains about 60 species mainly distributed in Asia, Europe, and North America to northern South America (Wan et al. 2013).

Oxytocin is a neuropeptide produced by magnocellular neurosecretory neurons located primarily in the supraoptic nucleus and paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus. The long axons of these neurons project to the neurohypophysis where oxytocin is released into the general circulation in response to the physiological demands. Oxytocin plays critical roles in female reproductive physiology, specifically in uterine contraction during labor and milk ejection while nursing.

Enzyme-mediated lipid oxidation is an important regulatory event in cell signaling, with oxidized lipids being potent signaling molecules that can illicit dramatic changes in cell behavior. For example, peroxidation of an arachidonoyl poly-unsaturated fatty acid by the human enzyme 15-lipoxygenase-2 (15-LOX-2) has been associated with formation of atherosclerotic plaques. Previous work on synthetically oxidized membranes has shown that oxidized lipid tails will change their conformation to facilitate interactions between the peroxide group and the lipid headgroups.

Background: Whereas mechanical thrombectomy (MT) has become standard-of-care treatment for patients with salvageable brain tissue after acute stroke caused by large-vessel occlusions, the results of MT in patients with medium-vessel occlusions (MEVOs), particularly in the posterior cerebral artery (PCA), are not well known.
Methods: Using data from the international Stroke Thrombectomy and Aneurysm Registry (STAR), we assessed presenting characteristics and clinical outcomes for patients who underwent MT for primary occlusions in the P2 PCA segment. As a subanalysis, we compared the PCA MeVO outcomes with STAR's anterior circulation MeVO outcomes, namely middle cerebral artery (MCA) M2 and M3 segments.

The earth is thought to have gone through complex physicochemical changes during the accretion and magma ocean stages. To better understand this evolution process at the fundamental level, we investigate the behavior of a bulk earth melt system by simulating the composition FeMgSiO (in wt%) at high pressure. A deep neural network potential trained by first-principles data can enable accurate molecular dynamics simulation of large supercells that greatly enhances sampling for reliable evaluation of elemental partitioning.

We sought to derive an objective measure of psychomotor slowing from speech analytics during a psychiatric interview to avoid potential burden of dedicated neurophysiological testing. Speech latency, which reflects response time between speakers, shows promise from the literature. Speech data was obtained from 274 subjects with a diagnosis of bipolar I depression enrolled in a randomized, doubleblind, 6-week phase 2 clinical trial.

Background: The role of antiplatelet/anticoagulant therapy is well known for its primary and secondary prevention of sequela from cardiovascular disease by decreasing the incidence of acute cerebral, cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, and other thrombo-embolicevents. The overwhelming data show that the risk of thrombotic events is significantly higher than that of bleeding during surgery after antiplatelet drug discontinuation. It has been assumed that discontinuing antiplatelet therapy prior to performing interventional pain management techniques is a common practice, even though doing so may potentially increase the risk of acute cerebral and cardiovascular events.

Background: Device closure of a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is rapidly evolving, with the Amplatzer Piccolo Occluder (Abbott) receiving US Food and Drug Administration approval and becoming the first device approved for PDA closure in patients ≥700 g. We report on the first known cases of complete left pulmonary artery (LPA) occlusion following Piccolo closure of a PDA in premature infants.
Methods: Retrospective chart analysis of PDA closures.

Background: Here we describe our experience managing intracranial dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) via endovascular embolization using a transarterial embolization (TAE) technique with liquid embolic agents. We illustrate the technical nuance of using dual arterial access for angiographic control runs in complex DAVFs supplied by multiple feeders from 2 distinct arterial systems.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of intracranial DAVF embolization as a single treatment technique at our institution from 2013 to 2023.

Dysregulated lipid metabolism in obesity leads to adipose tissue expansion, a major contributor to metabolic dysfunction and chronic disease. Lipid metabolism and fatty acid changes play vital roles in the progression of obesity. In this proof-of-concept study, Raman techniques combined with histochemical imaging methods were utilized to analyze the impact of a high-fat diet (HFD) on different types of adipose tissue in mice, using a small sample size (n = 3 per group).

The objective of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of dietary supplementation of muramidase (MUR) and 2 phytogenic additives on the growth performance, intestinal morphology, bacteria load, and production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) of broiler chickens raised under field-like conditions. A total of 6,400 day-old Ross 308 broiler chicks were randomly selected and distributed into 32 floor pens, with 200 chicks (100 males and 100 females)/pen. The treatment groups were an unsupplemented control, and the experimental groups supplemented with MUR at 35,000 LSU(F)/kg of feed, phytogenic 1 (Phyto 1, based on thymol) at 100g/ton feed, or phytogenic 2 (Phyto 2, based on alkaloids) at 60g/ton feed, for a total period of 41 d.

Protein tyrosine kinases (PTKs) function as key molecules in the signaling pathways in addition to their impact as a therapeutic target for the treatment of many human diseases, including cancer. PTKs are characterized by their ability to phosphorylate serine, threonine, or tyrosine residues and can thereby rapidly and reversibly alter the function of their protein substrates in the form of significant changes in protein confirmation and affinity for their interaction with protein partners to drive cellular functions under normal and pathological conditions. PTKs are classified into two groups: one of which represents tyrosine kinases, while the other one includes the members of the serine/threonine kinases.

This work deals with the fabrication of lignin containing cellulose nanofiber (LCNF)/AgSe films for thermoelectric applications. AgSe nanoparticles were synthesized within the LCNF network through methods, employing NaSeO and AgNO along with microwave energy treatment. LCNF/AgSe films fabricated with two LCNF : AgSe weight percent ratios (, 50 : 50 and 30 : 70) were used to construct a flexible thermoelectric module.

We report a unique putative causative heterozygous mutation in in a pure hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) patient expanding the HSP group further. We also deliberate on how our case was different from prior -related pathologies including spastic paraplegia, intellectual disability, nystagmus, and obesity (SINO) syndrome, and the observation of and aquaporin-4 () downregulation in the ventricular ependymal lining of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) patients.

Addressing the challenge of constructing multi-substituted dihydropyrans, we present an efficient synthesis method for oxygen-containing heterocycles. Using thiones and metal carbenes, we employed xanthate and triazole to intramolecularly synthesize dihydropyran or dihydrofuran compounds. 1,2-Hydride migration was inhibited, and thiodihydropyrans were obtained in excellent yields.

Background: Thermal ablation has recently become a key therapy for the treatment of colorectal liver metastasis (CLM). However, the role of ablation in combination with resection has not yet been firmly established. We hypothesize that in patients with CLM, those who undergo liver resection with ablation (RA) have similar outcomes compared with those who undergo liver resection only.
