Evaluation of visual evoked potential in chronic myeloid leukemias.

Background: Visual complaint is not very uncommon in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients. Our study aims to evaluate the visual pathway using visual evoked potential (VEP) in cases of CML at the time of diagnosis and 6 weeks after tyrosine kinase therapy, to find out treatment impact in asymptomatic as well as symptomatic individuals and compare it with the general population.

Materials And Methods: This is an analytical cross-sectional study.

Comparison of HPV 16/18 Genotyping and p16/Ki67 Dual Staining for Detection of High-Grade Cervical Lesion in Patients with Low-Grade Cervical Smears.

Objective: To triage low-grade cervical smears (ASCUS/LSIL) by HPV 16/18 genotyping and dual staining with p16/Ki67 and to compare the sensitivity and specificity of these two triage methods for detection of high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (HGCIN).

Methods: In this prospective cross-sectional study, we evaluated a total of 89 women with low-grade smears (54 ASCUS, 35 LSIL) recruited from a tertiary care hospital. All patients underwent colposcopy guided cervical biopsy.

Background: Antibody testing is often used for serosurveillance of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and chemiluminescence-based antibody tests are quite sensitive and specific for such serological testing. Rapid antibody tests against different antigens are developed and effectively used for this purpose.

Metabolic Disorders among Children Presenting with Acute Encephalopathy.

Objective: To study the clinicoetiological profile of children presenting with acute noninfectious encephalopathy (NIE) and identify the proportion of children having inborn errors of metabolism (IEM).

Method: This descriptive cross sectional study was conducted in a tertiary care centre in Northern India. Consecutive children, aged more than 28 d and less than 12 y, with acute encephalopathy were enrolled after ruling out CNS infection.

Meandering pulmonary vein: A case report.

Anomalies of the pulmonary venous circulation are extremely uncommon. We report a case of an anomalous unilateral single pulmonary vein also referred to as a meandering pulmonary vein. A single large tortuous pulmonary vein was seen on the right side draining into the left atrium with associated ipsilateral absence of the middle lobe bronchus and interlobar fissures.

Improving quality of care during childbirth in primary health centres: a stepped-wedge cluster-randomised trial in India.

Background: Low/middle-income countries need a large-scale improvement in the quality of care (QoC) around the time of childbirth in order to reduce high maternal, fetal and neonatal mortality. However, there is a paucity of scalable models.

Methods: We conducted a stepped-wedge cluster-randomised trial in 15 primary health centres (PHC) of the state of Haryana in India to test the effectiveness of a multipronged quality management strategy comprising capacity building of providers, periodic assessments of the PHCs to identify quality gaps and undertaking improvement activities for closure of the gaps.

Alarming rates of antimicrobial resistance and fungal sepsis in outborn neonates in North India.

Background: There is a paucity of data on the epidemiology of sepsis in outborn neonates being referred to level-3 units in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). The objective of the present study was to evaluate the prevalence of sepsis and outcomes of outborn neonates with sepsis, and to characterize the pathogen profile and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) patterns of common isolates in them.

Methods: In this prospective observational cohort study (2011-2015), a dedicated research team enrolled all neonates admitted to an outborn level-3 neonatal unit and followed them until discharge/death.

Case Report: Bullous Scabies in Two Children below 10 Years.

Bullous scabies is an infrequent and atypical presentation of scabies, with predilection for elderly and males. Its median age of presentation is 70 years. We report two male cases of bullous scabies who were 7 years and 6 months old.

Aquagenic cutaneous disorders.

Aquagenic cutaneous disorders, which include aquagenic urticaria, aquagenic pruritus, and aquagenic acrokeratoderma, are a group of rare diseases characterized by skin lesions or discomfort induced by brief contact with water. Aquagenic urticaria is characterized by pruritic wheals that occur at the sites of water contact, either immediately or within minutes, and disappear within 30-60 min after water removal. Aquagenic pruritus presents with severe pruritus or a stinging, tingling, or burning sensation without any visible skin changes.

Bullous Scabies.

Scabies is a common contagious cutaneous disease and usually affects the young, characterized by polymorphous lesions that may present as burrows, pruritic papules, and inflammatory nodules. Bullous scabies (BS) is its rather rare subtype, mimicking bullous pemphigoid. We report a 15-year-old Chinese boy presenting with 1-month history of pruritic bullae on his penile skin, showing poor response to both topical steroids and systemic antihistamines, but cured by sulfur ointment alone.

Ingrowing Hair: A Case Report.

Cutaneous pili migrans and creeping eruption caused by parasitic diseases may present as a moving linear lesion in skin. The former, caused by a hair shaft or fragment embedded in the superficial skin or middle dermis, is a rare condition characterized by creeping eruption with a black line observed at the advancing end.
