The zoonotic SARS-CoV-2 virus was present before the onset of the pandemic. It undergoes evolution, adaptation, and selection to develop variants that gain high transmission rates and virulence, resulting in the pandemic. Structurally, the spike protein of the virus is required for binding to ACE2 receptors of the host cells.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has become a major health concern worldwide and has evolved into different variants. SARS-CoV-2 possesses a spike glycoprotein on its envelope that binds to the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE-2) receptor of the host cell via the receptor-binding domain (RBD) in the upper respiratory tract. Since the SARS-CoV-2 virus variants change the severity of the diesease and treatment scenarios, repurposing current medicines may provide a quick and appealing method with established safety features.

Background And Purpose: Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a brain dysfunction caused by acute and chronic hepatic failure. The pathogenesis of HE is unknown, although small intestinal bacterial overgrowth associated with chronic liver damage, hyperammonemia, and oxidative stress are considered major factors for HE. Effective lowering of circulating ammonia and neuroinflammation is the main strategy for preventing and treating HE in cirrhosis.

Introduction: A correlation between new coronaviruses and host immunity, as well as the role of defective immune function in host response, would be extremely helpful in understanding coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pathogenicity, and a coherent structure of treatments and vaccines. As existing vaccines may be inadequate for new viral variants emerging in various regions of the world, it is a vital requirement for fresh and effective therapeutic alternatives.
Area Covered: Immunotherapy may give a viable protective option for COVID-19, a disease that is currently a big burden on global health and economic systems.

Tuberculosis, due to its relentless nature, is now a major public health threat. The concomitant resurgence of TB with the MDR- or XDR-TB and HIV/AIDS pandemic has exposed the frailties of the current drug armatorium. Based on isosteric replacement and good 3D structural similarity between PA-824, a novel antimycobacterial agent undergoing clinical trials, and imidazo[1,2-c]pyrimidines, we have designed novel imidazo[1,2-c]pyrimidines.

Objective: To find out whether the addition of fenofibrate to statin monotherapy produced any synergistic or additive beneficial effects in reducing risk factors, especially plasma fibrinogen, in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) requiring percutaneous coronary interventions.
Methods: A randomized, non-blinded, prospective study with parallel group design. One hundred two ACS patients who underwent angioplasty were randomly assigned to atorvastatin (20 mg/day, n=25), simvastatin (40 mg/day, n=27), atorvastatin-fenofibrate (10 mg/day-200 mg/day) combination (n=25) or simvastatin-fenofibrate (20 mg/day-200 mg/day) combination (n=25).
