In adults, the limbal stem cells (LSC) reside in the limbal region of the eye, at the junction of the cornea and the sclera where they renew the outer epithelial layer of the cornea assuring transparency. LSC deficiencies (LSCD) due to disease or injury account for one of the major causes of blindness. Among current treatments for LSCD, cornea transparency can be restored by providing new LSC to the damaged eye and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) holds great promise as a new advanced cell source.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is often asymptomatic and underdiagnosed; consequently, there is a demand for simple, non-invasive diagnostic tools. In this study, we developed a method to quantify liver steatosis based on miRNAs, present in liver and serum, that correlate with liver fat. Trafficking in human organs, cells, and tissues has long been a source of concern for health authorities and professionals, and several international ethical guidance documents and national laws have affirmed the prohibition of trade in these substances of human origin (SoHOs). In contrast, trafficking in cells, tissues, and medical products derived from SoHOs has received comparatively little attention, and the extent and nature of such trafficking remain largely unknown.

Livestock slurry has gathered significant interest as a secondary raw material for fertilisers industry due to its content on macronutrients -nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium- and organic carbon. In this study, the performance of an on-site pilot plant composed by microfiltration, membrane-assisted stripping, and reverse osmosis for selective recovery of nitrogen as fertiliser and water reclamation was demonstrated for 2 years in a pig farm, referenced to 8 batches for seasonal assessment. Microfiltration mitigated the seasonal variation in the composition of pig slurry leading to stable process efficiency in the following steps.

This study aimed to assess acute and residual changes in sprint-related hamstring injury (HSI) risk factors after a football (soccer) match, focusing on recovery within the commonly observed 72-h timeframe between elite football matches. We used a multifactorial approach within a football context, incorporating optical and ultrastructural microscopic analysis of BFlh (biceps femoris long head) muscle fibres, along with an examination of BFlh fibre composition. Changes in sprint performance-related factors and HSI modifiable risk factors were examined until 3 days after the match (MD ) in 20 football players.

Background: Small Extracellular Vesicles (sEVs) are nano-sized vesicles that are present in all biofluids including human milk (HM) playing a crucial role in cell-to-cell communication and the stimulation of the neonatal immune system. Purpose: Injury prevention is a crucial aspect of sports, particularly in high-performance settings such as elite female football. This study aimed to develop an injury prediction model that incorporates clinical, Global-Positioning-System (GPS), and multiomics (genomics and metabolomics) data to better understand the factors associated with injury in elite female football players.
Methods: We designed a prospective cohort study over 2 seasons (2019-20 and 2021-22) of noncontact injuries in 24 elite female players in the Spanish Premiership competition.

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a serious adverse hepatic event presenting diagnostic and prognostic challenges. The clinical categorization of DILI into hepatocellular, cholestatic, or mixed phenotype is based on serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) values; however, this classification may not capture the full spectrum of DILI subtypes. With this aim, we explored the utility of assessing changes in the plasma metabolomic profiles of 79 DILI patients assessed by the RUCAM (Roussel Uclaf Causality Assessment Method) score to better characterize this condition and compare results obtained with the standard clinical characterization.
