Article Synopsis
  • Early seedling vigour (ESV) is crucial for rice cultivation, particularly in direct-seeded systems, and the aus varietal group shows high ESV.
  • A study of 181 aus accessions revealed significant genetic variation in ESV traits, and the vegetative vigour was closely linked to overall plant performance.
  • Genome-wide association studies identified 14 significant QTLs associated with ESV, including novel QTLs, and pinpointed candidate genes that may enhance seedling vigour and grain yield in breeding programs.

The normal functioning of the larynx or voicebox gives humans the ability to converse with others effortlessly. However, if the larynx is permanently removed due to injury or illness, speech cannot be produced. The electrolarynx, a noninvasive device used to produce speech for such persons, has a motor-induced hum which hinders telephone-based communication among electrolaryngeal speakers.

Root-knot nematodes are devastating pathogens of crop plants. The draft genome of southern root-knot nematode was published in 2008 and additional genome and transcriptome data became available later on. However, lack of a publically available annotation for genome and transcriptome(s) limits the use of this data for functional and comparative genomics by the interested researchers.
