Background: Obesity is a well-established risk factor for cancer. Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is established as a safe procedure providing accelerated weight loss and comorbidity improvement or remission. Additionally, it is approved as a bridging procedure for various non-oncologic surgeries, with very limited data for oncologic procedures.

Women in neurosurgery: a cross-sectional demographic study of female neurosurgery residents in the United States.

Objective: Over the past several decades, the number of women applying to medical school has increased significantly. However, parallel recruitment and retention of women in the field of neurosurgery continues to lag. Acute macular neuroretinopathy associated with intravitreal anti-VEGF injection: A case report.

Purpose: to report a case of acute macular neuroretinopathy occurring after intravitreal aflibercept injection for macular edema due to CRVO.

Observations: Two days after Aflibercept intravitreal injection, the patient developed vision loss associated with a central scotoma. Optical coherence tomography showed a hyperreflective band at the level of the outer nuclear/outer plexiform layer corresponding to the patient's scotoma, ruling in the diagnosis of acute macular neuroretinopahty.

Gastroesophageal Cancer After Gastric Bypass Surgeries: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Data comparing the occurrence of gastroesophageal cancer after gastric bypass procedures are lacking and are only available in the form of case reports. We perform in this study a systematic review and a meta-analysis of all the reported cases of gastroesophageal cancer following Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and loop gastric bypass-one anastomosis gastric bypass/mini gastric bypass (LGB-OAGB/MGB). We conducted a systematic review of all the reported cases in articles referenced in PubMed/Medline, Cochrane, and Scholar Google.

A novel homozygous RTEL1 variant in a consanguineous Lebanese family: phenotypic heterogeneity and disease anticipation.

Phenotypic heterogeneity is often observed in patients with telomeropathies caused by pathogenic variants in telomere biology genes. However, the roles of recessive variants in these different phenotypes are not fully characterized. Our goal is to describe the biological roles of a novel homozygous RTEL1 variant identified in a consanguineous Lebanese family with unusual presentation of telomeropathies.

Sexual Violence in Childhood and Post-Childhood: The Experiences of Young Men Who Have Sex With Men in Beirut.

Sexual violence has been found to have psychosocial and sexual ramifications for men who have sex with men (MSM) but has not been studied in the Middle East. We assessed the prevalence and correlates of experiences of child and post-child sexual violence among young MSM residing in Beirut, Lebanon. In total, 226 MSM, aged 18 to 29, were recruited with long-chain peer referrals and administered a survey that included questions on history of being pressured to have sex, as well as specific forms of sexual harassment and abuse, in addition to measures of psychosocial functioning and sexual behavior.
