Lung cancer (LC) is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Although low-dose computed tomography (LD-CT) reduces mortality, its clinical use is limited by cost, radiation, and false positives. Therefore, there is an urgent need for non-invasive and cost-effective biomarkers.

The prospect that the ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus (VMN) transcription factor steroidogenic factor-1/NR5A1 (SF-1) may exert sex-dimorphic control of glucose counterregulation is unresolved. Recent studies in male rats show that SF-1 regulates transcription of co-expressed hypoglycemia-sensitive neurochemicals in dorsomedial VMN growth hormone-releasing hormone (Ghrh) neurons. Gene knockdown and laser-catapult-microdissection/single-cell multiplex qPCR techniques were used here in a female rat model to determine if SF-1 control of Ghrh neuron transmitter marker, energy sensor, and estrogen receptor (ER) variant mRNAs varies according to sex.

Protein misfolding fuels multiple neurodegenerative diseases, but existing techniques lack the resolution to pinpoint the location and physical properties of aggregates within living cells. Our protocol describes high-resolution confocal and fluorescent lifetime microscopy (Fast 3D FLIM) of an aggregation probing system. This system involves a metastable HaloTag protein (HT-aggr) labeled with P1 solvatochromic fluorophore, which can be targeted to subcellular compartments.

The peripheral endoplasmic reticulum (ER) forms a dense, interconnected, and constantly evolving network of membrane-bound tubules in eukaryotic cells. While individual structural elements and the morphogens that stabilize them have been described, a quantitative understanding of the dynamic large-scale network topology remains elusive. We develop a physical model of the ER as an active liquid network, governed by a balance of tension-driven shrinking and new tubule growth.

Diatoms derive from a secondary endosymbiosis event, which occurred when a eukaryotic host cell engulfed a red alga. This led to the formation of a complex plastid enclosed by four membranes: two innermost membranes originating from the red alga chloroplast envelope, and two additional peri- and epiplastidial membranes (PPM, EpM). The EpM is linked to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).

Background: Despite the growing interest in the use of human genomic data for drug target identification and validation, the extent to which the spectrum of human disease has been addressed by genome-wide association studies (GWAS), or by drug development, and the degree to which these efforts overlap remain unclear.
Methods: In this study we harmonize and integrate different data sources to create a sample space of all the human drug targets and diseases and identify points of convergence or divergence of GWAS and drug development efforts.
Results: We show that only 612 of 11,158 diseases listed in Human Disease Ontology have an approved drug treatment in at least one region of the world.

Background And Objective: Viloxazine ER (extended-release capsules; Qelbree) is a nonstimulant medication that has been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children (> 6 years old) and adults. This phase 3 open-label extension to a pivotal phase 3, double-blind trial evaluated the long-term safety and continued efficacy of viloxazine ER in adults with ADHD.
Methods: This was a multicenter, flexible-dose, open-label extension to a phase III, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (NCT04016779).

Introduction: Various studies indicate the role of experiential avoidance (EA) in the onset and maintenance of mental health disorders such as depression or anxiety disorders. The Brief Experiential Avoidance Questionnaire (BEAQ) is a quick tool to assess EA.
Objective: This study aimed to translate the BEAQ into French and to validate it in a sample of non-clinical adults.

The comparative study of the four non-bilaterian phyla (Cnidaria, Placozoa, Ctenophora, and Porifera) provides insights into the origin of bilaterian traits. To complete our knowledge of the cell biology and development of these animals, additional non-bilaterian models are needed. Given the developmental, histological, ecological, and genomic differences between the four sponge classes (Demospongiae, Calcarea, Homoscleromorpha, and Hexactinellida), we have been developing the Oscarella lobularis (Porifera, class Homoscleromorpha) model over the past 15 years.

In recent years, intensive research has focused on lanthanide-doped nanoparticles (NPs) used as noncontact temperature sensors, particularly in nanomedicine. These NPs must be capable of excitation and emission within biological windows, where biological materials usually show better transparency for radiation. In this article, we propose that NPs sensitized with Er ions can be applied as temperature sensors in biological materials.

. Adherence is a major virulence trait in that, in many strains, depends on the (epithelial adhesin) genes, which confer the ability to adhere to epithelial and endothelial cells of the host. The genes are generally found at subtelomeric regions, which makes them subject to subtelomeric silencing.

Immune surveillance by cytotoxic T cells eliminates tumor cells and cells infected by intracellular pathogens. This process relies on the presentation of antigenic peptides by Major Histocompatibility Complex class I (MHC-I) at the cell surface. The loading of these peptides onto MHC-I depends on the peptide loading complex (PLC) at the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).

The last decade has seen significant improvements in our understanding of skyrmions current induced dynamics, along with their room temperature stabilization, however, the impact of local material inhomogeneities still remains an issue that impedes reaching the regime of steady state motion of these spin textures. Here, we study the spin-torque driven motion of skyrmions in synthetic ferrimagnetic multilayers with the aim of achieving high mobility and reduced skyrmion Hall effect. We consider Pt|Co|Tb multilayers of various thicknesses with antiferromagnetic coupling between the Co and Tb magnetization.

Approximately 80% of breast cancer (BC) cases are estrogen receptor positive (ER+) and sensitive to hormone treatment; Tamoxifen is a prodrug, and its main plasmatic active metabolites are 4-hydroxytamoxifen (4-OH Tam) and endoxifen. Despite the effectiveness of tamoxifen therapy, resistance can be developed. An increment in eukaryotic initiation factor-4A complex (eIF4A) activity can result in tamoxifen-resistant tumor cells.

Exposure to pesticides, poses a significant threat to male fertility by compromising crucial cells involved in spermatogenesis. Aminocarb, is a widely used carbamate insecticide, although its detrimental effects on the male reproductive system, especially on sustentacular Sertoli cells, pivotal for spermatogenesis, remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the effects of escalating concentrations of aminocarb on a mouse Sertoli cell line, TM4.
