Background: Metformin, a commonly prescribed medication for managing diabetes, has garnered increasing interest as a potential therapeutic option for combating cancer and aging.
Methods: The current study investigated the effects of metformin treatment on human meibomian gland epithelial cells (hMGECs) at morphological, molecular, and electron microscopy levels. HMGECs were stimulated in vitro with 1 mM, 5 mM, and 10 mM metformin for 24, 48, and 72 h.

Pure TM samples were collected after microincisional trabeculectomy from 26 patients with primary or secondary glaucoma and 10 control samples from eye bank donor corneas.

Purpose: To compare the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer thickness, central subfield thickness (CSFT), and parafoveal and perifoveal thickness in children of different age groups with young adult controls by using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included children aged 6-17 years and adult controls (18-22 years) - group 1: 6-9 years (57 eyes), group 2: 10-13 years (116 eyes), group 3: 14-17 years (66 eyes), and group 4 (controls): 18-22 years (61 eyes). A mixed-effects model was used to compare the OCT parameters among the groups, along with multivariable analysis.

The STABLE (Slashing Two-wheeled Accidents by Leveraging Eyecare) trial was designed to determine whether providing spectacles could reduce risk among young myopic motorcycle users in Vietnam.
Methods: This investigator-masked, stepped-wedge, cluster randomised naturalistic driving trial will recruit 625 students aged 18-23 years, driving ≥ 50 km/week, with ≥ 1-year driving experience and using motorcycles as their primary means of transport, in 25 clusters of 25 students in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
