Three stable microbial consortia, each composed of Bacillus paranthracis and Staphylococcus haemolyticus strains, were isolated from milk of cows diagnosed with mastitis in three geographically remote regions of Russia. The composition of these consortia remained stable following multiple passages on culture media. Apparently, this stability is due to the structure of the microbial biofilms formed by the communities.

In this study, 371 Holstein cows from six herds and 26 Holstein bulls, which were used in these herds, were genotyped by the Illumina BovineSNP50 array. For runs of homozygosity (ROH) identification, consecutive and sliding runs were performed by the detectRUNS and Plink software. The missing calls did not significantly affect the ROH data.

Negative heterosis can occur on different economically important traits, but the exact biological mechanisms of this phenomenon are still unknown. The present study focuses on determining the genetic factors associated with negative heterosis in interspecific hybrids between domestic sheep () and argali (). One locus (rs417431015) associated with viability and two loci (rs413302370, rs402808951) associated with meat productivity were identified.

Enzootic bovine leukosis is one of the unsolved problems of cattle breeding in many countries. The etiological agent of the disease is the bovine leukemia virus (BLV) - an oncogenic retrovirus, that infects B-lymphocytes in cattle. The number and genetic content of BLV provirus integration sites in the bovine genome were reported to can be used as an early diagnostic sign of leukemogenesis in the infected cattle, but patterns of BLV provirus integration into the bovine genome and associations between genomic features of the integration sites and development of lymphocytosis and B-cell lymphomas remain poorly elucidated.

Interest in the use of assisted reproductive technology in reindeer husbandry has gradually increased during the last decades. This article reviews Western and Russian literature on reindeer semen collection, semen cryopreservation and artificial insemination. In addition, literature on the synchronisation of the stage of reindeer oestrous cycle among females, recovery of in vivo embryos, embryo transfer, the production of in vitro-produced embryos and pregnancy diagnosis is reviewed.

This review presents the current progress in and approaches to in vitro conservation of reproductive cells of animals, including birds, such as cryopreservation and freeze-drying, as well as epigenetic conditions for restoring viable spermatozoa and female gametes after conservation. Cryopreservation is an effective way to preserve reproductive cells of various species of animals and birds. In vitro gene pool conservation is aimed primarily to the restoration of extinct breeds and populations and to the support of genetic diversity in populations prone to genetic drift.

The present review provides a comprehensive assessment on the basic aspects of the reproduction of the Rangifer male with a special focus on pubertal development, and the seasonal dynamics of gametogenesis, androgenesis, antler cycle and other physiological and behavioural characteristics of the rutting male. A greater understanding of the reproductive physiology of the males is needed to improve existing management strategies of semi-domestic stocks in the changing climate and to develop species-specific assisted reproductive technologies for improving the in situ and ex situ conservation programs to preserve endangered subspecies as well as to facilitate the transfer of genetic resources between fragmented wild or semi-domestic populations.

The use of specialized meat breeds in cattle breeding programs is considered very promising for improving herds' productivity. However, in animal genotype, along with genes that positively affect the productivity signs, there are genes whose mutations, known as genetic defects, negatively affect the health of animals. The aim of the study was the screening of the Russian populations of Aberdeen Angus, Hereford and Belgian Blue cattle on gene mutations associated with the genetic defects of arthrogryposis multiplex (AM), osteopetrosis (OS), developmental duplication (DD), double muscling (M1), hypotrichosis (HY) and maple syrup urine disease (MSUD) as well as the polymorphism of myostatin gene () linked with the gene responsible for less fat content in the carcass by means of DNA analysis.

The aim of this study was to create balanced media for the cryopreservation of rooster semen in pellets to maintain the functional state of the sperm after thawing. Fructose was replaced by trehalose in experimental media in proportions of 10% (LCM-T10) and 20% (LCM-T20), while LCM was used as a control. Follicular fluid (FF) fills the interior portion of the ovarian antral follicle and provides a suitable microenvironment for the growth of the enclosed oocyte through molecular factors that originate from plasma and the secretions of follicular cells. FF contains extracellular nanovesicles (ffEVs), including 30-100-nm membrane-coated exosomes, which carry different types of RNA, proteins, and lipids and directly influence oocyte competence to develop embryo. In the present study, we aimed to characterize the protein cargo of EVs from the FF of 3-6-mm follicles and uncover the origins of ffEVs by assessing expression levels of corresponding mRNAs in bovine follicular cells and oocyte and cell proteomes.
