Background: Malignant large bowel obstructions frequently require emergency surgery. Compliance with enhanced recovery after surgery programmes is significantly reduced due to non-removal of the nasogastric tube in the postoperative period. Background: Short-term toxicological evaluations of alpha-radioimmunotherapy have been reported in preclinical assays, particularly using bismuth-213 (213Bi). Toxicity is greatly influenced not only by the pharmacokinetics and binding specificity of the vector but also by non-specific irradiation due to the circulating radiopharmaceutical in the blood. Background: Angio-oedema (AO) can be attributable to bradykinin (BK) accumulation, as is the case for prototypical hereditary AO (HAO) due to C1 inhibitor (C1-INH) deficiency. However, our clinical experience in a reference centre has shown that some patients display a clinical history suggestive of HAO, but exhibit normal C1-INH function, have no mutation in the causative genes associated with HAO (SERPING1, F12), and report no intake of drugs known to promote AO.

The molecular etiology of pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE), an autosomal recessive connective tissue disorder, has become increasingly complex as not only mutations in ATP-binding cassette family C member 6 (ABCC6) but also ectonucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase 1 (ENPP1) and gamma-glutamyl carboxylase (GGCX) can cause resembling phenotypes. Identification of modifier genes, such as vascular endothelial growth factor A, has further contributed to the molecular heterogeneity of PXE. In such heterogeneous diseases, next-generation sequencing (NGS) allows to perform mutation screening of several genes in a single reaction.

Background And Aims: The contribution of arterial calcification (AC) in peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and arterial wall compressibility is a matter of debate. Pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE), an inherited metabolic disease due to ABCC6 gene mutations, combines elastic fiber fragmentation and calcification in various soft tissues including the arterial wall. Since AC is associated with PAD, a frequent complication of PXE, we sought to determine the role of AC in PAD and arterial wall compressibility in this group of patients.

Objectives: Endothelial function can be assessed by acetylcholine (ACh) iontophoresis with single current application. The effect of inter-electrode distance as well as electrical cutaneous resistance (ECR) on ACh dependent vasodilation has never been studied using single current application. The aims of this study are (i) to compare ACh-peak and ECR measured at different inter-electrode distances, (ii) to assess the relationship between ACh-peak and ECR, (iii) and to study the reproducibility of the ECR values.

Purpose: Microcirculatory dysfunction plays a key role in the development of sepsis during which core temperature is often disturbed. Skin microvascular assessment using laser techniques has been suggested to evaluate microvascular dysfunction during sepsis, but skin microcirculation is also a major effector of human thermoregulation. Therefore we aimed to study the effect of skin temperature on endothelial- and non-endothelial microvascular responses.
