Background: We investigated the effects of sevoflurane exposure on the expression of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP), expression and ablation of natural killer group 2, member D (NKG2D) ligands (UL16-binding proteins 1-3 and major histocompatibility complex class I chain-related molecules A/B), and natural killer (NK) cell-mediated cytotoxicity in breast cancer cells.
Methods: Three human breast cancer cell lines (MCF-7, MDA-MB-453, and HCC-70) were incubated with 0 (control), 600 (S6), or 1200 μM (S12) sevoflurane for 4 h. The gene expression of NKG2D ligands and their protein expression on cancer cell surfaces were measured using multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and flow cytometry, respectively.

Purpose: This study aimed to (1) evaluate the outcomes of below-knee prosthetic bypass (BKPB) in the absence of the great saphenous vein, and (2) identify risk factors associated with these outcomes.
Materials And Methods: This study included 37 consecutive patients who underwent BKPB with or without distal modification between 2010 and 2022. We further assessed the following treatment outcomes: primary patency (PP), secondary patency (SP), limb salvage (LS), and amputation-free survival (AFS) rates.

Background: Neoadjuvant treatment is recommended for large GISTs due to their friability and risk of extensive operations; however, studies on the indications and long-term results of this approach are lacking.
Methods: Patients with large (≥ 10 cm) gastric GISTs were enrolled from multiple centers in Korea and Japan after a pathologic confirmation of c-KIT ( +) GISTs. Imatinib (400 mg/d) was given for 6-9 months preoperatively, and R0 resection was intended.

We assessed the risk factors for major amputation of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) in patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) stages 3b-5. For DFU assessment, in addition to DFU location and presence of infection, ischemia, and neuropathy, vascular calcification was assessed using the medial arterial calcification (MAC) score. Of 210 patients, 26 (12.

Background: Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is effectively used for treating various cerebrovascular diseases, including arteriovenous malformations. As image-based surgery is the gold standard technique in SRS, the quality of stereotactic angiography images greatly influences the surgical approach for cerebrovascular diseases. Despite several studies in the relevant literature, research on auxiliary devices, including angiography indicators used for cerebrovascular disease surgeries, is limited.

The optimal surgical treatment for patients suffering from distractive flexion injury of the subaxial cervical spine with a locked facet (LF) is unknown. Closed reduction via an anterior or posterior approach is a treatment option for LF. We examined the surgical outcomes of patients treated for locked facet distractive flexion injury (LF-DFI) in this case series, with a particular emphasis on the surgical approach and reduction maneuver.

Rationale & Objective: The platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) is a marker of inflammation and a predictor of mortality in a variety of diseases. However, the effectiveness of PLR as a predictor of mortality in patients with severe acute kidney injury (AKI) is uncertain. We evaluated the association between the PLR and mortality in critically ill patients with severe AKI who underwent continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT).

Insulin and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) signaling regulate cellular growth and glucose metabolism in the myocardium. However, their physiological role in the cells of the cardiac conduction system has never been explored. Therefore, we sought to determine the spatiotemporal function of insulin/IGF-1 receptors in the sinoatrial node (SAN).

The Good Outcome Following Attempted Resuscitation (GO-FAR) 2 score is a prognostic tool developed to support decision-making for do-not-attempt-resuscitation (DNAR) orders by predicting neurological outcomes after in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) based on prearrest variables. However, this scoring system requires further validation. We aimed to validate the GO-FAR 2 score for predicting good neurological outcome in Korean patients with IHCA.

: Ureteral stent insertion passively dilates the ureter. Therefore, it is sometimes used preoperatively before flexible ureterorenoscopy to make the ureter more accessible and facilitate urolithiasis passage, especially when ureteroscopic access has failed or when the ureter is expected to be tight. However, it may cause stent-related discomfort and complications.
