Popliteal cysts (PCs) are occasionally accompanied by knee osteoarthritis (OA) and varus malalignment. However, whether concomitant arthroscopic excision of PCs with medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) improves the osteoarthritic environment remains unclear. Therefore, this study assessed serial changes in C-size, medial meniscus extrusion (MME), and cartilage status for up to 2 years following an MOWHTO.

Medical therapies that apply biodegradable materials, such as polydioxanone, are widely used to treat various disorders. Thread-embedding acupuncture (TEA) is a unique form of acupuncture that exerts long-lasting therapeutic effects by inserting absorbable threads at specific acupuncture points, and is widely used to treat various diseases. However, there is currently a lack of research regarding the safety of TEA.

: Earlier detection of severe immune-related hematological adverse events (irHAEs) in cancer patients treated with a PD-1 or PD-L1 inhibitor is critical to improving treatment outcomes. The study aimed to develop a simple machine learning (ML) model for predicting irHAEs associated with PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors. : We utilized the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership-Common Data Model based on electronic medical records from a tertiary (KHMC) and a secondary (KHNMC) hospital in South Korea.

Background: Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a rapid-onset disease caused by the immune system damaging the peripheral nervous system. Since most standardized treatments for GBS focus on acute phase treatment, there are limitations to the rehabilitation and management of general conditions. In East Asian countries, herbal medicine has been used to treat GBS and aid rehabilitation.

Background: Three dimensional (3D) cell cultures can be effectively used for drug discovery and development but there are still challenges in their general application to high-throughput screening. In this study, we developed a novel high-throughput chemotherapeutic 3D drug screening system for gastric cancer, named 'Cure-GA', to discover clinically applicable anticancer drugs and predict therapeutic responses.
Methods: Primary cancer cells were isolated from 143 fresh surgical specimens by enzymatic treatment.

Spatial molecular profiling has provided biomedical researchers valuable opportunities to better understand the relationship between cellular localization and tissue function. Effectively modeling multimodal spatial omics data is crucial for understanding tissue complexity and underlying biology. Furthermore, improvements in spatial resolution have led to the advent of technologies that can generate spatial molecular data with subcellular resolution, requiring the development of computationally efficient methods that can handle the resulting large-scale datasets.

Objective: To investigate baseline and change of pulmonary damage biomarkers (serum Krebs von den Lungen 6 [KL-6], human surfactant protein D [hSP-D], and matrix metalloproteinase 7 [MMP-7]) with rheumatoid arthritis-associated interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD) progression.
Methods: In the Korean Rheumatoid Arthritis Interstitial Lung Disease (KORAIL) cohort, a prospective cohort, we enrolled patients with RA and ILD confirmed by chest computed tomography imaging and followed annually. ILD progression was defined as worsening in physiological and radiological domains of the 2022 American Thoracic Society, European Respiratory Society, Japanese Respiratory Society, and Latin American Thoracic Society guideline for progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF).

This study aimed to identify the clinical characteristics of patients with burning mouth syndrome (BMS) according to the low frequency/high frequency (LF/HF) ratio in the heart rate variability test and to evaluate the potential of the LF/HF ratio as an indicator for the diagnostic or predictive assessment of patients with BMS. A total of 469 patients with BMS who visited the Oral Diseases Clinic of Kyung Hee University Korean Medicine Hospital between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2022, were included in the study. The patients were asked to rate their tongue pain on a visual analog scale before and after treatment.

Peripheral neurodegenerative diseases induced by irreversible peripheral nerve degeneration (PND), such as diabetic peripheral neuropathy, have a high prevalence worldwide and reduce the quality of life. However, there is no agent effective against the irreversible PND. After peripheral nerve injury, Schwann cells play an important role in regulating PND.

Background: Although clinicians frequently encounter incidentally detected gastroduodenal extrinsic compressive lesions (GDECLs) on upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (UGE), the optimal management approach for GDECLs has not been fully established. This study aimed to stratify and identify important factors associated with clinically significant GDECLs that require regular follow-up or further treatment.
Methods: Between June 2007 and December 2015, a total of 73 patients with suspected GDECLs on UGE at Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong were identified and studied retrospectively.

Objective: The leptomeningeal ivy sign is a distinctive finding of moyamoya disease (MMD), characterized by a linear high signal intensity along the cortical sulci on contrast-enhanced T1 magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and fluid-attenuated inversion-recovery MRI. We recently identified a similar linear enhancement along the cortical sulci using gadolinium-enhanced vessel wall MRI (VWMR) in patients with MMD. The aim of this study was to introduce the concept of the "VWMR ivy sign (VIS)".

Objective: FREEDOM (Study 342; NCT03201900) assessed the long-term treatment effect of perampanel monotherapy in adolescent and adult patients (12-74 years of age) with untreated focal-onset seizures (FOS), with or without focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures (FBTCS).
Methods: In the Core Study, after a 4-week Pretreatment Phase, perampanel was up-titrated to 4 mg/day during a 6-week Titration Period followed by a 26-week Maintenance Period. Patients experiencing seizure(s) during the 4-mg/day Maintenance Period could have perampanel up-titrated to 8 mg/day over 4 weeks then could enter the 26-week 8-mg/day Maintenance Period.

Background And Purpose: This study evaluated the diagnostic utility of an anti-signal-recognition particle 54 (anti-SRP54) antibody-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) as well as the clinical, serological, and pathological characteristics of patients with SRP immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM).
Methods: We evaluated 87 patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathy and 107 healthy participants between January 2002 and December 2023. The sensitivity and specificity of the ELISA for anti-SRP54 antibodies were assessed, and the clinical profiles of patients with anti-SRP54 antibodies were determined.

Rare endocrine diseases are complex conditions that require lifelong specialized care due to their chronic nature and associated long-term complications. In Korea, a lack of nationwide data on clinical practice and outcomes has limited progress in patient care. Therefore, the Multicenter Networks for Ideal Outcomes of Pediatric Rare Endocrine and Metabolic Disease (OUTSPREAD) study was initiated.

We present a case of iatrogenic lumbar foraminal stenosis caused by bone-cement leakage during vertebroplasty, successfully managed using transforaminal endoscopic lumbar foraminotomy (TELF). Vertebroplasty is an effective treatment for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (VCFs); however, complications such as bone-cement leakage can lead to vascular or neurological issues, including lumbar radiculopathy. TELF is a minimally invasive surgical option for addressing various forms of lumbar foraminal stenosis.

Background: Topical retinoids, while renowned for their efficacy in treating acne vulgaris, are often hampered by inter-individual variability in tolerability. This challenge, primarily driven by side effects like erythema, scaling, and dryness, significantly impacts patient adherence and, ultimately, treatment outcomes.
Aims: This prospective, multi-center, observational study investigated the novel role of a specific dermocosmetic regimen as adjunctive therapy, focusing on its ability to mitigate retinoid-induced side effects and enhance the overall tolerability of acne treatment regimens in a Korean population.
