Inorganic arsenic (As), a known carcinogen and major contaminant in drinking water, affects over 140 million people globally, with levels exceeding the World Health Organization's (WHO) guidelines of 10 μg L. Developing innovative technologies for effluent handling and decontaminating polluted water is critical. This paper summarizes the fundamental characteristics of chitosan-embedded composites for As adsorption from water.

Chitosan (CS) polysaccharide is expected to exhibit greater ionic conductivity, which can be attributed to its increased amino group content when it is blended with different semiconducting materials. Herein, the work used this conducting ability of chitosan and prepared a heterogeneous MoS-induced magnetic chitosan (MF@CS) composite via the co-precipitation method, which was used to scrutinize the catalytic performance with Methylene Blue (MB) and Malachite Green (MG) dyes by visible light irradiation. The saturation magnetization value of the MF@CS composite is found to be 7.

Electroautotrophic microbes at biocathodes in microbial electrolysis cells (MECs) can catalyze the hydrogen evolution reaction with low energy demand, facilitating long-term stable performance through specific and renewable biocatalysts. However, MECs have not yet reached commercialization due to a lack of understanding of the optimal microbial strains and reactor configurations for achieving high performance. Here, we critically analyze the criteria for the inocula selection, with a focus on the effect of hydrogenase activity and microbe-electrode interactions.

In this study, we successfully developed a hybrid architecture referred to as MoS@MX, involving the integration of MoS layered onto MXene using a straightforward co-precipitation method. This innovative hybrid photocatalyst exhibited remarkable efficiency in removing oxytetracycline (OTC) molecules from aqueous solutions under visible-light irradiation. During the photocatalytic process, both MoS and MX played distinct yet complementary roles.

High ammonia concentration in wastewater can hinder methane production rate in anaerobic digestion (AD)-microbial electrosynthesis systems (ADMES). To address this issue, a dual-chamber reactor was fabricated using an anion exchange membrane (AEM) to separate the dark-fermentation (DF) and ADMES process, preventing ammonia migration from the DF chamber to the ADMES chamber. As a result, the DF-ADMES achieved a high methane yield based on chemical oxygen demand (COD) of 0.

This study used the raw data from the Eighth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES-VIII), conducted under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2019. It was conducted to identify a significant correlation between physical activity (PA) and health-related quality of life (HR QOL) in the Korean population. In 2019, the KNHANES-VIII added the Health-related Quality of Life Instrument with 8 items (HINT-8) to assess the HR QOL.

The current study is to examine the disparities in physical activity (PA), sedentary behavior (SB), and stress levels in Korean adolescents concerning changes in their perception of family economic status (ES) during COVID-19. Among a total of 6144 Korean adolescents aged 12 to 18, the participants were categorized into two groups based on their responses regarding changes in their family ES due to COVID-19: Declined ES (n = 3072) and Non-changed ES (n = 3072), with matching in terms of age, gender, and BMI. All variables were assessed using the 16th year (2020) of the Korean Youth Risk Behavior Survey.

In this article, we describe the formulation of polyaniline-chitosan/MoS (PANI-CS @MoS) blended composite and evaluated its efficiency to degrade the dye molecules Rhodamine B (RhB) and Malachite Green (MG) under visible light. In the photocatalytic mechanism, the CS acts as an electron carrier and binding agent during the oxidation reaction to decrease the recombination of electrons and holes generated by the irradiation of light. FTIR, XPS, XRD, TG, Zeta Potential, UV, SEM, AFM and TEM were used to characterize the PANI-CS@MoS composite after it had been synthesized.

A hydrothermal method was employed for green synthesis of fluorescent carbon dots (GCDs) from Annona squamosa leaves. The synthesized GCDs were confirmed by microscopic and spectroscopic techniques such as: High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HR-TEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), UV-Vis spectrometry, Fluorescence spectrometry, X-Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray Diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The produced GCDs had shown multiple properties, including massive antibacterial activity at concentration 200 μg/ml.

Implicit interaction of electroactive microbes with solid electrodes is an interesting phenomenon in nature, which supported development of bioelectrochemical systems (BESs), especially the microbial fuel cell (MFCs) for valorization of low-value waste streams into bioelectricity. Intriguingly, the metabolism of interacted microbes with electrode is affected by the microenvironment at electrodes, which influences the current response. For instance, when heavy metal ions (HMIs) are imposed in the medium, the current production decreases due to their intrinsic toxic effect.
