To date, almost all case reports of insulin-derived amyloidosis described the presence of a subcutaneous mass that was observable on physical examination. This report presents two cases of insulin-derived amyloidosis without palpable masses at insulin injection sites. In both cases, blood glucose concentrations improved, and the insulin dose could be reduced by an average of 45% after changing the insulin injection sites.

Purpose: To investigate the effects of alveolar recruitment maneuver (ARM) during one-lung ventilation (OLV) on end-expiratory lung volume (EELV) of the dependent lung.
Methods: Patients who were planned to undergo lung resection surgery for lung tumors and needed OLV for at least 1 h were included in the study. After turning the patients into the lateral position under total intravenous anesthesia, OLV was commenced using a double-lumen endobronchial tube.
Objective: In SILIUS (NCT01214343), combination of sorafenib and hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy did not significantly improve overall survival (OS) in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) compared with sorafenib alone. In this study, we explored the relationship between objective response by mRECIST and OS in the sorafenib group, in the combination group, and in all patients in the SILIUS trial.
Methods: Association between objective response and OS in patients treated with sorafenib ( = 103) or combination ( = 102) and all patients ( = 205) were analyzed.

Nuclear receptor subfamily 4, group A, member 3 (NR4A3) is a member of the NR4A subgroup of orphan nuclear receptors, implicated in the regulation of diverse biological functions, including metabolism, angiogenesis, inflammation, cell proliferation, and apoptosis. Although many reports have suggested the involvement of NR4A3 in the development and/or progression of tumors, its role varies among tumor types. Previously, we reported that DNA hypomethylation at NR4A3 exon 3 is associated with lower survival rate of neuroblastoma (NB) patients.

Background: Patients with lymph node metastasis-negative (pN0) invasive breast cancer have favorable outcomes following initial treatment. However, false negatives which occur during routine histologic examination of lymph nodes are reported to underestimate the clinical stage of disease. To identify a high-risk group in pN0 invasive breast cancer, we examined copy number alterations (CNAs) of 800 cancer-related genes.

Erythropoietin-producing hepatocellular (Eph) receptors and their ligand ephrins serve crucial roles in the interactions among epithelial cells. Eph receptor/ephrin signaling regulates cell functions, including proliferation, differentiation and migration, via these cell-cell interactions. We reported previously that EPHB2, a member of the Eph receptor family, was highly expressed in chemically induced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) tissues in mice.

As cancer susceptibility varies among mouse strains, mouse models are powerful tools for the identification of genes responsible for cancer development. Several cancer susceptibility loci have been mapped by genetic analysis using cancer-resistant and cancer-susceptible mouse strains. However, only a few corresponding genes for these loci have been identified, because most of the cancer susceptibility loci are low-penetrance alleles.
