The plane running between two adjacent pulmonary segments consists of a very thin layer of connective tissue through which the pulmonary vein also runs. To perform an anatomically correct segmentectomy, this segmental plane needs to be divided. Before the operation, the locations of vessels and bronchi are confirmed by three-dimensional computed tomography.

Background: There is a dearth of data on outcomes of postoperative chemotherapy after neoadjuvant therapy followed by surgery in patients with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The objective of this study was to compare survival outcomes in patients who did and did not receive adjuvant chemotherapy.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed using our multicenter database to identify patients who received neoadjuvant therapy followed by surgery for clinical T3 N0 or N1-N2 resectable NSCLC between 2009 and 2016.

Background: The delayed-window indocyanine green (DWICG) technique is useful for the removal of brain and spinal tumors.
Case Description: A 41-year-old female presented with lower left back and radicular pain. An magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an extramedullary L3 lesion located ventrally in the spinal canal that appeared to be a schwannoma.

The maintenance of cellular redox balance is crucial for cell survival and homeostasis and is disrupted with aging. Selenoproteins, comprising essential antioxidant enzymes, raise intriguing questions about their involvement in hematopoietic aging and potential reversibility. Motivated by our observation of mRNA downregulation of key antioxidant selenoproteins in aged human hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and previous findings of increased lipid peroxidation in aged hematopoiesis, we employed tRNASec gene (Trsp) knockout (KO) mouse model to simulate disrupted selenoprotein synthesis.

Kawasaki disease (KD) is an idiopathic acute inflammatory illness that commonly affects children in Northeast Asian countries. In this case report, a psoriasiform eruption appeared on the face and extremities following the onset of KD. A review of previous reports identified 38 cases of psoriasiform eruptions following KD, typically appearing 4 days to 2 months after the onset of KD, unlike other skin manifestations associated with the disease.

Background: Fractional flow reserve (FFR) can be estimated by analysis of intravascular imaging in a coronary artery; however, there are no data for estimated FFR in an extremity artery. The aim of this concept-generating study was to determine whether it is possible to estimate the value of peripheral FFR (PFFR) by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) analysis also in femoropopliteal artery lesions.
Methods: Between April 2022 and February 2023, PFFR was measured before endovascular therapy in 31 stenotic femoropopliteal artery lesions.

Objective: To assess the prevalence and outcomes among regimens of glucocorticoid tapering for microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) and granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) in real-world practice.
Methods: We retrospectively examined the Japan Collaborative Registry of ANCA-associated Vasculitis (J-CANVAS) registry, and evaluated the prevalence of glucocorticoid tapering regimens in the PEXIVAS trial. In patients with newly diagnosed MPA and GPA, we compared outcomes among standard and reduced pace regimens.

Background Aims: Methotrexate (MTX) is used as standard graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. However, the optimal dosing regimen among the various MTX regimens available remains unclear.
Methods: We used the registration data of Kyoto Stem Cell Transplantation Group to compare six MTX dosing protocols in a multicenter retrospective analysis of 816 cases of unrelated bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cell transplantation.

A 69-year-old man with a history of thymoma resection was diagnosed with COVID-19 pneumonia. Initially, the patient responded well to molnupiravir, but he experienced a relapse. Subsequent steroids for COVID-19-related organizing pneumonia (OP) led to temporary improvement, but his condition deteriorated when the steroids were tapered off.

The clinical significance of FOLFOXIRI (5-FU, leucovorin, oxaliplatin, and irinotecan) plus anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody using cetuximab for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) remains controversial. We report results from a randomized phase 2 DEEPER trial (UMIN000018217, jRCTs061180022) to test the superiority of modified (m)-FOLFOXIRI plus weekly cetuximab over bevacizumab in patients with RAS wild-type (wt) mCRC. Primary endpoint was depth of response (DpR).

Introduction: The only treatment for non-resectable colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM) is medical therapy, and the overall survival (OS) rate at 3 and 5 years is approximately 30%-40% and less than 10%, respectively. In 2020, a group in Norway reported that liver transplantation for non-resectable CRLM improved the 5-year OS rate to up to 83%. Clinical trials have been launched since that report was published, but most have involved deceased-donor liver transplantation rather than living-donor liver transplantation.

Background: We conducted a randomize phase II study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of topoisomerase II inhibitor amrubicin plus topoisomerase I inhibitor irinotecan (AI) compared with cisplatin plus irinotecan (PI) as first-line therapy in patients with extensive-disease (ED) small-cell lung cancer (SCLC).
Patients And Methods: Chemo-naïve patients with pathologically proven ED-SCLC (including limited disease (LD) SCLC with malignant effusion) were enrolled. Patients were randomized 1:1 to receive either AI (amrubicin 90mg/m on day 1 and irinotecan 50mg/m on days 1 and 8 of a 21-day cycle) or PI (cisplatin 60mg/m on day 1 and irinotecan 60mg/m on days 1, 8 and 15 of a 28-day cycle).

Introduction: In many cases of female radical cystectomy for bladder cancer, the procedure involves simultaneous removal of the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, anterior vaginal wall, and urethra. After this procedure, rare complications like vaginal dehiscence and evisceration may occur. We herein describe this article surgical technique involving preservation of the distal anterior vaginal wall to maintain pelvic floor strength and retrograde resection of the proximal anterior vaginal wall.

The long-term outcomes of patients with stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) after widespread use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) were investigated. Patients with ischemic stroke or TIA admitted between April 2014 and September 2015 were prospectively enrolled and followed for up to 5 years after the index stroke or TIA. Primary outcome measures were any cause of death and stroke recurrence.
