Background: The composite physiologic index (CPI) was developed to estimate the extent of interstitial lung disease (ILD) in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) patients based on pulmonary function tests (PFTs). The CALIPER-revised version of the CPI (CALIPER-CPI) was also developed to estimate the volume fraction of ILD measured by CALIPER, an automated quantitative CT postprocessing software. Recently, artificial intelligence-based quantitative CT image analysis software (AIQCT), which can be used to quantify the bronchial volume separately from the ILD volume, was developed and validated in IPF.

A 64-year-old Japanese woman presented with gross hematuria and was diagnosed with stage IVB cervical cancer. Renal dysfunction was observed following chemoradiation therapy, and a renal biopsy revealed renal thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) and tubulointerstitial nephritis (TIN), which are atypical features of radiation nephropathy. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed wedge-shaped areas of high contrast, consistent with areas of high radiation dose in the kidneys, thus leading to the diagnosis of radiation nephropathy.

[Progress in therapy with L-asparaginase].

Rinsho Ketsueki

October 2024

Department of Pediatrics, Kyoto City Hospital.

L-asparaginase is a key drug in the treatment of acute lymphocytic leukemia/lymphoblastic lymphoma and is currently used in treatment regimens for a wide range of age groups, including children, adolescents, young adults, and older adults. Discontinuation of L-asparaginase leads to worse survival outcomes. Strategies such as appropriate prevention and management of asparaginase-specific adverse events such as hypersensitivity reactions and optimizing administration by therapeutic drug monitoring are important to ensure completion of all asparaginase doses planned in each regimen.
