The unit cell of the title compound, [Ni(CHClN)]·2CHOH, consists of a neutral complex and two methanol mol-ecules. In the complex, the two tridentate 2-(3-(4-chloro-phen-yl)-1-1,2,4-triazol-5-yl)-6-(1-pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine ligands coordinate to the central Ni ion through the N atoms of the pyrazole, pyridine and triazole groups, forming a pseudo-octa-hedral coordination sphere. Neighbouring tapered mol-ecules are linked through weak C-H(pz)⋯π(ph) inter-actions into monoperiodic chains, which are further linked through weak C-H⋯N/C inter-actions into diperiodic layers.

Lanthanide chelates with dimethyl(phenylsulfonyl)amidophosphate (labeled as HSP) and Lewis base ligands (bpy = 2,2;-bipyridine and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) of formula Na[Ln(SP)] (1Ln), [Ln(SP)bpy] (2Ln); [Ln(SP)phen] (3Ln) (Ln = Eu, Gd, Tb and Lu) were obtained and characterized by the X-ray, photoluminescence spectroscopy at 293 and 77 K as well as by intrinsic (Q) and overall (Q) luminescence quantum yields. These phosphors manifest a very strong emission after excitation in the UV range of the molecular singlet states (S) and two of them have very high Q values (Eu and Tb chelates of the type 2Ln and 3Ln). The dynamics of the excited states are discussed based on the intramolecular energy transfer theory, considering the dipole-dipole, the dipole-multipole and the exchange mechanisms.

The tetra-kis complex of neodymium(III), tetra-kis-{μ--[bis-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)phos-phor-yl]acet-am-id-ato}bis(pro-pan-2-ol)neodymiumsodium pro-pan-2-ol monosol-vate, [NaNd(CHClNO)(CHO)]·CHO or NaNdPyr(-PrOH)·-PrOH, with the amide type CAPh ligand bis(,-tetra-methylene)(tri-chloro-acetyl)phos-phoric acid tri-amide (HPyr), has been synthesized, crystallized and characterized by X-ray diffraction. The complex does not have the tetra-kis-(CAPh)lanthanide anion, which is typical for ester-type CAPh-based coordin-ation compounds. Instead, the NdO polyhedron is formed by one oxygen atom of a 2-propanol mol-ecule and seven oxygen atoms of CAPh ligands in the title compound.

In the past, the high intraspecific variation of wing pattern within the genus Phaselia Guene, [1858] repeatedly led to misidentifications. In this study, we applied an integrative approach using external and internal morphological characters, along with DNA barcoding and distribution data to review the taxonomy of the genus Phaselia in the Middle East and Central Asia. For this study, 710 specimens, including type specimens and 242 genitalia slides were prepared and examined.

Fluorescent probes for sensing fundamental properties of biomolecular environment, such as polarity and hydration, help to study assembly of lipids into biomembranes, sensing interactions of biomolecules and imaging physiological state of the cells. Here, we summarize major efforts in the development of probes based on two photophysical mechanisms: (i) an excited-state intramolecular charge transfer (ICT), which is represented by fluorescent solvatochromic dyes that shift their emission band maximum as a function of environment polarity and hydration; (ii) excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT), with particular focus on 5-membered cyclic systems, represented by 3-hydroxyflavones, because they exhibit dual emission sensitive to the environment. For both ICT and ESIPT dyes, the design of the probes and their biological applications are summarized.

Considering the applications of fluorescent probes and the information they provide, their brightness of fluorescence and photostability are of paramount importance. However, in the case of steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy and fluorescence microscopy, the amount of information can be increased by the application of multi-channel probes, via a multi-band fluorophore introduced in the probe molecule. In most cases, the use of such a multi-band (or multi-channel) fluorophore can also be combined with the concomitant introduction of one or several analyte receptors.

In the title compound [Fe(CO)(CHN)](CHCHSO)·2.75HO, the two Fe ions have a highly distorted octa-hedral FeNO environment formed by two bidentate triazole-based chelating ligands and a bis-bidentate oxalate bridging anion that connects the metal ions. Stabilization within the crystal structure is provided a system of O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding, which determines the formation of a two-dimensional architecture along the axis direction.

We present the experimental and theoretical results that made it possible to propose the energy transfer mechanism for a Yb complex with a large energy gap between the ligand and Yb excited states using a theoretical model and experimental data. Absorption and emission spectroscopy in the 300-4 K range is used for the study of the Yb compound with N-phosphorylated sulfonamide (Na[YbL]), which, despite the large energy gap, is characterized by high emission sensitization efficiency (η = 40%) and relatively long Yb emission lifetime (27 μs). The crystal structure of Na[YbL], radiative lifetime (930 μs), refractive index (1.

The ability to efficiently synthesize desired compounds can be a limiting factor for chemical space exploration in drug discovery. This ability is conditioned not only by the existence of well-studied synthetic protocols but also by the availability of corresponding reagents, so-called building blocks (BBs). In this work, we present a detailed analysis of the chemical space of 400 000 purchasable BBs.

Most of the existing computational tools for de novo library design are focused on the generation, rational selection, and combination of promising structural motifs to form members of the new library. However, the absence of a direct link between the chemical space of the retrosynthetically generated fragments and the pool of available reagents makes such approaches appear as rather theoretical and reality-disconnected. In this context, here we present Synthons Interpreter (), a new open-source toolkit for de novo library design that allows merging those two chemical spaces into a single synthons space.

Quantum optical theory of absorption properties of interacting atoms is developed. The concept of local absorptance is introduced as a derivative of the logarithm of intensity with respect to the distance in the vicinity of a given spatial point and a moment of time. The intensity is represented by the quantum and statistically averaged normal product of creation and annihilation operators of the electromagnetic field.

The key feature of photon echo-based spectroscopies is a selective elimination of the inhomogeneous broadening. Fast homogeneous dephasing typical for large macromolecules makes it difficult to resolve the congested spectra even if the inhomogeneous component is eliminated. We propose a novel two-dimensional spectroscopy in which a series of temporally separated probe pulses are combined with the strong narrowband control pulse.

Over recent years, an industry of compound suppliers has grown to provide drug discovery with screening compounds: it is estimated that there are over 16 million compounds available from these sources. Here, we review the chemical space covered by suppliers' compound libraries (SCL) in terms of compound physicochemical properties, novelty, diversity, and quality. We examine the feasibility of compiling high-quality vendor-based libraries avoiding complicated, expensive compound management activity, and compare the resulting libraries to the ChEMBL data set.

Nucleic acids are characterized by a variety of dynamically interconverting structures that play a major role in transcriptional and translational regulation as well as recombination and repair. To monitor these interconversions, Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based techniques can be used, but require two fluorophores that are typically large and can alter the DNA/RNA structure and protein binding. Additionally, events that do not alter the donor/acceptor distance and/or angular relationship are frequently left undetected.
