Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) is an ideal insulating substrate and template for other two-dimensional (2D) materials. The combination of hBN and 2D materials of group IV atoms, such as graphene, is interesting, because it can offer attractive physical properties and promising applications. Here, we demonstrate the unique behavior of tin (Sn), one of the group IV elements, on multilayer hBN which was grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD).

Some people experience pleasant emotion when listening to sad music. Therefore, they can enjoy listening to it. In the current study, we aimed to investigate such apparently paradoxical emotional mechanisms and focused on the influence of individuals' trait empathy, which has been reported to associate with emotional responses to sad music and a preference for it.

Musical performance requires motor skills to coordinate the movements of multiple joints in the hand and arm over a wide range of tempi. However, it is unclear whether the coordination of movement across joints would differ for musicians with different skill levels and how inter-joint coordination would vary in relation to music tempo. The present study addresses these issues by examining the kinematics and muscular activity of the hand and arm movements of professional and amateur pianists who strike two keys alternately with the thumb and little finger at various tempi.
