Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common condition treated with biological disease-modifying anti-rheumatic medicines (bDMARDs). However, many patients exhibit resistance, necessitating the use of machine learning models to predict remissions in patients treated with bDMARDs, thereby reducing healthcare costs and minimizing negative effects.

Objective: The study aims to develop machine learning models using data from the Kuwait Registry for Rheumatic Diseases (KRRD) to identify clinical characteristics predictive of remission in RA patients treated with biologics.

Dysregulation of the DRAIC/SBK1 Axis Promotes Lung Cancer Progression.

Diagnostics (Basel)

October 2024

Centre for Cancer Biology and Therapy, School of Applied Science, London South Bank University, London SE1 0AA, UK.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are key regulators of cellular processes that underpin cancer development and progression. DRAIC is a migration inhibitor that has been linked with lung adenocarcinoma progression; however, its mechanisms remain to be studied. Several bioinformatics tools were used to explore the role of DRAIC in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC).

Oxidative stress triggered by testicular torsion and detorsion in young males could negatively impact future fertility. Using a rat animal model for testicular IRI (tIRI), we aim to study the induction of autophagy (ATG) during testicular ischemia and tIRI and the role of oxidative-stress-induced c-Jun N-terminal Kinase (JNK) as a cytoprotective mechanism. Sixty male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into five groups: sham, ischemia only, ischemia+SP600125 (a JNK inhibitor), tIRI only, and tIRI+SP600125.

The construction, structural identifications along with compositional properties, using TEM, FT-IR, and XPS spectroscopies, of an innovative light-induced multi-arm azobenzenes based FeO magnetic nanoparticles (Azo-FeO MNPs) are being reported. Such organic (light-sensitive dendrimers-like structure), inorganic (magnet core), hybrid material has been applied as an efficient recoverable/reusable extractive sorbent for the detection of phthalate plasticizers from acetate buffer solution. The extraction study was controlled within consecutive procedures via UV-light exposure to achieve pore-size control which then further subjected for the evaluation of the analytes' retention, separation, and release as well as the detection of the phthalate pollutants using GCMS-.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how cellular metabolism changes during hematopoiesis, focusing on the effects of mitochondrial adenylate kinase 2 (AK2) deficiency in a severe immunodeficiency syndrome called reticular dysgenesis.
  • Using patient samples and CRISPR-modified human hematopoietic stem cells, the research reveals that AK2 deficiency affects mTOR signaling differently in early versus late granulocyte development, demonstrating the importance of metabolic checkpoints.
  • While early-stage AK2-deficient cells maintain survival due to effective metabolic regulation, late-stage cells experience unchecked mTOR activity and energy depletion, leading to proliferation arrest and cell death.

This paper proposes a model called X-LSTM-EO, which integrates explainable artificial intelligence (XAI), long short-term memory (LSTM), and equilibrium optimizer (EO) to reliably forecast solar power generation. The LSTM component forecasts power generation rates based on environmental conditions, while the EO component optimizes the LSTM model's hyper-parameters through training. The XAI-based Local Interpretable and Model-independent Explanation (LIME) is adapted to identify the critical factors that influence the accuracy of the power generation forecasts model in smart solar systems.
