Objectives: Studies have reported that invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) with coexisting ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) show lower metastatic potential and recurrence and better overall survival than pure IDC. In this study, we assessed F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) images of patients with newly diagnosed IDC to determine if there is any difference in PET findings in IDC-DCIS and pure IDC cases.
Methods: FDG PET/CT images of patients with newly diagnosed IDC of the breast who subsequently underwent breast surgery and had histopathology result in our records were further evaluated.

Metabolic bone disease due to hyperparathyroidism is characterized by increased bone resorption and new bone formation. (99m)Tc- hexakis-2-methoxyisobutylisonitrile ((99m)Tc MIBI) accumulation is controlled by metabolic function and cell viability. To investigate, for the first time, the potential of whole body (99m)Tc MIBI scan for detecting, visually and with the aid of quantitative analysis, bony changes associated with hyperparathyroidism.

Because disease activity in systemic lupus erythematosus correlates well with increased serum levels and activity of the cytokine tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), we report on the safety and efficacy of infliximab, a chimeric monoclonal antibody directed against TNF-alpha, given to a patient with active lupus with diffuse proliferative nephritis (WHO Class IV). This patient who failed to remit with a combination of full-dose steroids, mycophenolate mofetil, and cyclosporine, went into sustained remission with the addition of infliximab infusions.

To determine the effect of prostatitis on serum prostate specific antigen in the diagnosis of prostate cancer in Middle Eastern men, H&E-stained sections of all consecutive prostate specimens were reviewed for diagnosis (malignant or benign) and pattern of inflammation. Inflammation was categorized into acute, active chronic and chronic inactive and graded semi-quantitatively according to previously published criteria. Results were correlated with serum PSA obtained from patients' records.
