Background: There is currently very little research evidence on the benefits and safety of liraglutide in the management of weight regain or inadequate weight loss following metabolic and bariatric surgery. This study aimed to determine the clinical effectiveness and tolerability of liraglutide as an adjunct therapy for managing weight regain and inadequate weight loss following sleeve gastrectomy (SG).

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of medical records conducted at a private clinic in Kuwait.

COVID-19 and threats to irregular migrants in Kuwait and the Gulf.

Prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Gulf region was home to ~29 million foreign residents, an estimated 20-40% of whom were residing there in an irregular status. Most of them had skilfully devised strategies to survive in this irregular situation, with friends and relatives acting as essential support networks. The COVID-19 Pandemic suddenly disrupted this well-established social order.

Moyamoya syndrome in a child with HbEβ-thalassemia.

Moyamoya is a progressive cerebrovascular disease associated with stenosis or occlusion of the arteries of the Circle of Willis. It is uncommon in thalassemia. We present a 9-year-old girl with HbEβ-thalassemia who presented with headache, vomiting, and episodes of transient hemiparesis with complete occlusion internal carotid arteries.

In-hospital mortality in SARS-CoV-2 stratified by hemoglobin levels: A retrospective study.

This study is to estimate in-hospital mortality in severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) patients stratified by hemoglobin (Hb) level. Patients were stratified according to hemoglobin level into two groups, that is, Hb <100 g/L and Hb >100 g/L. A total of 6931 patients were included.

Spindle epithelial tumor with thymus-like differentiation (SETTLE) is a rare tumor of the thyroid gland occurring in children and young adults. This report presents SETTLE as a tumor that can also affect young children (under fives). Although majority of the reports were in Caucasians, the tumor can affect all races.

Prenatal immune challenge has been associated with alteration in brain development and plasticity that last into adulthood. We have previously shown that prenatal activation of toll-like receptor 4 by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induces IL-6-dependent STAT-3 signaling pathway in the fetal brain. Whether this IL-6-dependent activation of fetal brain results in long lasting impact in brain plasticity is still unknown.

Primary immunodeficiency diseases: an update on the classification from the international union of immunological societies expert committee for primary immunodeficiency.

We report the updated classification of primary immunodeficiency diseases, compiled by the ad hoc Expert Committee of the International Union of Immunological Societies. As compared to the previous edition, more than 15 novel disease entities have been added in the updated version. For each disorders, the key clinical and laboratory features are provided.

Medication adherence: a review of pharmacy education, research, practice and policy in Finland.

Aims: To describe pharmacy education, research, practice and policy related to medication adherence in Finland since the year 2000.

Methods: The three universities that provide pharmacy education (Åbo Akademi, University of Eastern Finland, and University of Helsinki) completed a structured pro-forma questionnaire regarding education related to medication adherence. A MEDLINE and EMBASE literature search was performed to identify English language peer-reviewed research that reported medication compliance, adherence or persistence.
