Hemorrhoidectomy is one of the most common surgical interventions to remove the third and fourth degrees of prolapse hemorrhoid. We carried out this systematic review and meta-analysis of the randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to comprehensively evaluate the efficacy of harmonic scalpel (HS) versus bipolar diathermy (BD) methods in terms of decreasing intraoperative and postoperative morbidities among patients undergoing hemorrhoidectomy. Suitable citations were found utilizing digital medical sources, including the CENTRAL, Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, from inception until December 2022.

In the absence of comprehensive data investigating carbetocin versus misoprostol for reducing postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) during cesarean section (CS), we performed this investigation to compare the efficiency and side events of carbetocin versus misoprostol in the protection and reduction of PPH for women who underwent CS. From inception to September 2022, we depended on searching through various databases for eligible trials involving Cochrane, Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. From the efficacy prospect, we found that carbetocin substantially decreased intraoperative blood loss (p<0.

Leiomyomas are inherently well-vascularized neoplasms; thus, they are very vulnerable to bleeding-associated complications during myomectomy. Ascorbic acid has well-established functions in tissue healing and the prevention of bleeding tendencies. Several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have explored the antihemorrhagic utility of ascorbic acid administration during myomectomy.

Tenecteplase (TNK) is a promising candidate to replace alteplase as the standard of care for acute ischemic stroke (AIS); however, the optimal dosage is still to be investigated. Therefore, we aim to evaluate the safety and efficacy of TNK versus alteplase and to investigate the optimal TNK dosage. A systematic review, pairwise, and network meta-analysis synthesizing randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from WOS, SCOPUS, EMBASE, and PubMed until July 26, 2022.

Globally, postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is the top cause of maternal death. Multiple uterotonic medications are available to prevent PPH; however, it is still unclear whether one is the most effective. The current study compared the efficacy and safety of intravenous carbetocin with rectal misoprostol for the active management of the third stage of labor in order to prevent PPH.

Article Synopsis
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to examine the effectiveness of oral nystatin in preventing fungal colonization in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants compared to placebo or no treatment.
  • Five randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were analyzed, revealing that oral nystatin significantly reduced the frequency of fungal colonization, the rate of invasive fungal infection, and the mean duration of antibiotic treatment.
  • However, there were no significant differences in mortality rates or the length of stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) between the nystatin group and the control group.

Splenic malignancies are uncommonly encountered in routine practice, and they are often only detected incidentally, posing a clinical challenge. Primary malignant neoplasms of the spleen are rare, and sarcomas are by far the rarest. The undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma type is an exceptionally rare and aggressive type with only a handful of cases reported in literature thus far.

Background: Kuwait and countries in the Arabian Gulf region face an alarming prevalence of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) that strain their health systems and threaten their economies. To quantify a key dimension of the burden, we estimated the risk of hospital utilization in Kuwait associated with diagnoses of the most prevalent NCDs, excluding cancer, using a generalizable approach suitable for cross-country disease burden comparisons and assessments of prevention effectiveness.

Methods: The study analyzed responses from a nationally representative sample of 2,165 individuals with self-reported hospital admissions over 12 months and NCD diagnoses from the World Health Survey in Kuwait in 2010.

Background And Aim: The impact of 17β-estradiol plus norethisterone acetate administration on serum lipids in women is controversial as previously published studies have produced conflicting results. Thus, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to investigate the effects of 17β-estradiol plus norethisterone acetate therapy on total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in females.

Methods: We searched the PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science databases for relevant trials published in English until 15 July 2021.

Objectives: To evaluate the impact of late-onset sepsis (LOS) in preterm infants on brain injury and neurodevelopmental outcomes at 36 months corrected age (CA).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of 203 preterm neonates of 24-32 weeks gestational age who were admitted between January and December 2017 at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of a maternity hospital in Kuwait. The cases were stratified into no sepsis, early-onset sepsis (first onset of sepsis ≤ 72 hours postnatally), and LOS (> 72 hours postnatally).
