Management of stage III non- small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is very challenging due to being a group of widely heterogeneous diseases that require multidisciplinary approaches with timely and coordinated care. The standards of care had significant changes over the last couple of years because of the introduction of consolidation therapy with checkpoint inhibitor following concurrent chemo-radiotherapy and the evolving new role of tyrosine kinase inhibitors in the adjuvant setting. The manuscript presents evidence-based recommendations for the workup, staging, treatment and follow up of the various subtypes of stage III NSCLC.

Osteitis condensans ilii (OCI) is a benign cause of low back pain for which no clear etiology has been identified. We report cases of 2 women with breast cancer referred for 18F-NaF PET/CT for skeletal staging. Both cases show characteristic findings of OCI on CT images, with 18F-NaF PET uptake in symptomatic patient and no uptake in asymptomatic.

18F- Sodium Fluoride (NaF) is an excellent bone imaging agent used for skeletal staging but can also be localized in extra osseous calcifying lesions. We report a case of a 38-year-old woman with breast carcinoma referred for 18F-NaF PET-CT to evaluate possible metastatic lesions. 18F-NaF PET-CT detected incidental focal soft tissue tracer uptake in the right cerebellum with no sign of calcification seen on CT images.

Metastatic involvement of the thyroid cartilage is rare due to the absence of vessels within the cartilaginous tissue. We present the case of a 65-year-old woman recently diagnosed with breast cancer referred for skeletal staging with F-NaF PET/CT. She was found to have multiple osteoblastic metastases along with thyroid cartilage metastasis.

Introduction: The approval of combination treatments for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) represents a major change in the clinical management of this malignancy. Updated treatment guidelines differentiate first-line mRCC treatment by patient risk group as defined by prognostic models and the number of risk factors.
Areas Covered: Current prognostic models, with a focus on the International Metastatic RCC Database Consortium and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center models, the heterogeneity of the intermediate risk group, and first- and second-line mRCC treatment outcomes according to patient risk group are discussed.

This study aimed to calculate patient radiation doses for adults during the seven most commonly performed conventional X-ray procedures, and to propose national diagnostic reference levels (DRLs). A representative sample of patients from 29 hospitals was included. The entrance surface air kerma (ESAK) was calculated by measuring X-ray tube output and the corresponding technical and exposure factors for each patient.

The genes belong to a family of transcription factors, the Krüppel-like zinc finger proteins. The GLIS proteins function primarily as activators of transcription (GLIS 1 and 3), while GLIS 2 functions as a repressor. Collectively, the GLIS proteins are involved in a variety of diseases in several organs ranging from Alzheimer's disease, facial dysmorphism, neonatal diabetes mellitus, breast and colon cancers and leukaemia.

We report the case of a 45-year-old man with thalassemia major referred for a bone scan as a workup for generalized bone pain. Tc-MDP SPECT CT showed multiple elongated soft tissue masses along the inner aspects of ribs and along both sides of dorsal spine with calcification and mild tracer uptake. There was also a large lobulated presacral soft tissue mass displacing the bladder and involving the adjacent pelvic bone.

Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare lymphoma that involves the central nervous system. The standard treatment involves chemotherapy with high-dose methotrexate. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of employing checkpoint inhibitor, nivolumab, alone to treat a patient with PCNSL who could not tolerate the induction therapy.

Introduction: The Papanicolaou Society of Cytopathology (PSC) system of reporting pancreatobiliary cytology is a standardised reporting nomenclature that uses a six-tiered scheme of diagnostic categories utilising routine microscopy and ancillary tests such as biochemical and molecular analysis of cyst fluids and immunochemistry. The objective of this study was to determine the applicability of the PSC system on endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration cytology samples reported at the cytopathology laboratory, Mubarak Al Kabeer Hospital, in Kuwait with special emphasis on situations with limited availability of ancillary tests.
Methods: In total, 132 cases of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration cytology samples from pancreatic lesions were categorised according to PSC system guidelines after examining the glass slides and reviewing the clinical, imaging and ancillary test findings.

Ethnic differences in blood group frequencies might result in clinically important mismatches for transfusions. Arab people represent a large population for which no comprehensive database of red cell genotypes is available and Kuwaitis are no exception. For instance, the Rh blood group is the most elaborate blood group system that shows a high degree of polymorphism among different ethnic groups, there has been little classification of RH alleles in Arab people.

Busulfan (Bu) is an alkylating agent commonly used in preparative regimens for hematologic malignant and non-malignant patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). The objective of the present study was to develop an UPLC-MS/MS method for quantification of Bu in human plasma. A total of 55 patients with hematologic malignancies (n = 34) and non- malignancies (n = 21) received myeloablative Bu therapy prior to HSCT.

Background: The Oncotype DX is a quantitative assay of the expression of 16 tumor-related genes and 5 reference genes that predicts the potential of adjuvant chemotherapy benefit in estrogen receptor (ER)-positive early breast cancer patients. The study aims to evaluate the impact of Oncotype DX as a tool for adjuvant treatment decision of ER-positive, HER2-negative, N0/N1 early-stage breast cancer patients and to determine which clinicopathological criteria derived the greatest advantage.
Results: A hundred patients at a median age of 50 years were included.

Fluorine-18-sodium fluoride (F-NaF) is a positron emission tomography (PET) bone imaging agent mainly used for oncology staging but may also be used in the evaluation of benign bone and joint pathology conditions. Fluorine-18-NaF is an excellent bone-seeking agent with high bone uptake owing to favorable biodistribution with rapid single-pass extraction, limited plasma protein binding and prompt renal clearance. Fluorine-18-NaF PET/computed tomography (CT) is highly sensitive in identifying both sclerotic and lytic bone metastatic lesions.

Recent studies have observed that thyroid lesions are more frequently encountered in kidney transplant recipients. A 45-year-old woman with history of chronic hypertension, kidney transplant and graft failure, was admitted for assessment for a second renal transplant and detected to have a thyroid nodule by ultrasound (US).

Although gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are rare, with an incidence of 1/100000 per year, they are the most common sarcomas in the peritoneal cavity. Despite considerable progress in the diagnosis and treatment of GIST, about half of all patients are estimated to experience recurrence. With only two drugs, sunitinib and regorafenib, approved by the Food and Drug Administration, selecting treatment options after imatinib failure and coordinating multidisciplinary care remain challenging.
