Schizophrenia presents significant diagnostic and treatment challenges, particularly in distinguishing between treatment-resistant (TRS) and non-treatment-resistant schizophrenia (NTRS). This cross-sectional study analyzed routine laboratory parameters as potential biomarkers to differentiate TRS, NTRS, and healthy individuals within a Qatari cohort. The study included 31 TRS and 38 NTRS patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, alongside 30 control subjects from the Qatar Biobank.

Intensive care unit (ICU) nurses were at the forefront of patient care during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. To date, no studies have explored what it meant to be a 'good nurse' in this unique and challenging context. As such, the aim of this study was to construct the meaning of the 'good nurse' in ICUs during a pandemic.

Hepatitis D virus (HDV) prevalence data and country-specific HDV guidelines are not widely available in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states. We developed consensus recommendations to guide healthcare professionals, policymakers, and researchers in improving HDV management and patient health outcomes in three GCC states: Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. A consensus panel comprising hepatology experts (n = 6) from the three GCC societies was formed.

Background: Effectiveness of disease-modifying treatment (DMT) in people affected by primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS) is limited. Whether specific subgroups may benefit more from DMT in a real-world setting remains unclear. Our aim was to investigate the potential effect of DMT on disability worsening among patients with PPMS stratified by different disability trajectories.

Even though fingerprints remain one of the most reliable methods of identification, they are often lost during the recovery process. Accurate fingerprint recognition depends on the contrast between the ridges and substrate. On tough surfaces, such as glossy, colorful, and patterned materials, the contrast is harder to establish.

Objective: The present retrospective study aimed to determine the relationship between the secondary implant stability quotient and different parameters related to an oxidized implant.
Methods: A total of 135 patients (305 oxidized implants) were included. Implant-related factors (length, diameter, surgical and loading protocols, grafting, insertion torque, and primary stability) were used for comparisons and linear regression analyses, using secondary ISQ as the dependent variable.

Angiopoietin-like protein 8 (Angptl8), expressed in the liver and adipocytes, forms a complex with Angptl3 or Angptl4, which regulates lipoprotein lipase and triglyceride metabolism. However, the precise functions of adipocyte Angptl8 remain elusive. Here we report that adipocyte-specific inducible Angptl8-knockout (AT-A8-KO) male mice on normal diet showed minor phenotypic changes, but after a high-fat high fructose (HFHF) diet, exhibited decreased body weight gain and glycemia, elevated rectal temperature and early dark phase energy expenditure compared to the Cre controls.

Background: Isolated sphenoid sinus fungal mucoceles are extremely rare and potentially associated with visual disturbances, cranial nerve (CN) deficits, or pituitary dysfunction. Their initial symptoms are often absent or nonspecific, and routine examination offers little information, resulting in diagnostic and therapeutic delays. A high index of suspicion and a thorough understanding of their clinical presentation, neuroradiological features, microbiological implications, and complication profile are crucial for early diagnosis and prompt management.

Brand advocates, characterized by their enthusiasm for promoting a brand without incentives, play a crucial role in driving positive word-of-mouth (WOM) and influencing potential customers. However, there is a notable lack of intelligent systems capable of accurately identifying online advocates based on their social interactions with brands. Knowledge Graphs (KGs) offer structured and factual representations of human knowledge, providing a potential solution to gain holistic insights into customer preferences and interactions with a brand.

In this study, a combined system consisting of an anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) and flow-through biofilm reactor/CANON (FTBR/CANON) was developed to simultaneously remove carbon and nitrogen from synthetic livestock wastewater. The average removal efficiencies of total nitrogen (TN) were 64.2 and 76.

Clinical crown lengthening is a surgical procedure that involves the manipulation of gingival tissue, designed to expose sound tooth structure for restorative purposes by apically repositioning the gingival tissue, with or without the removal of alveolar bone. Crown lengthening may be subdivided as functional or esthetic, according to the purpose of treatment. Functional crown lengthening pertains to the exposure of subgingival caries, fractures, or to avoid invading the biologic width.

Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) stresses the importance of worldwide vaccine coverage of coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) vaccination. This study fills a critical gap in the literature by providing empirical evidence on the factors influencing COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and inequity in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This study investigated the determinants of psychological antecedents and other factors behind COVID-19 vaccination and their role in vaccine coverage in MENA.

The evaluation of photovoltaic (PV) model parameters has gained importance considering emerging new energy power systems. Because weather patterns are unpredictable, variations in PV output power are nonlinear and periodic. It is impractical to rely on a time series because traditional power forecast techniques are based on linearity.

Addressing the intricate challenge of simultaneously improving the separation of photoinduced electron-hole pairs and enhancing redox potentials to produce hydrogen fuel demands the rational design of S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts. Herein, we used a hydrothermal process to integrate NbO nanorods and LaO nanosheets to design an NbO/LaO S-scheme system for photocatalytic hydrogen production under simulated sunlight illumination. Notably, the optimal hydrogen production performance of NbO/LaO (the molar ratio of NbO to LaO is 0.

Our case involves a 29-year-old postpartum woman who presented with severe substernal chest pain eight days after an emergency cesarean section for pregnancy-associated hypertension. Electrocardiography showed ST elevation in the inferior and posterior leads, and coronary angiography revealed a spontaneous dissection in the left circumflex artery (LCx) with an intramural hematoma, alongside a dissection of the right coronary artery (RCA) extending from the ostium to the mid-vessel.

Thin films of PbS, both undoped and cobalt-doped (Co-PbS), were produced on glass substrates using the straightforward and controllable approach of sequential ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR). The reactive substances employed to deposit the PbS thin films were lead nitrate (Pb(NO)), cobalt nitrate (Co(NO₃)₂(H₂O)₆), sodium thiosulphate (NaSO) and HO for different dipping concentrations of lead and cobalt. The films were adherent to the substrate and were compact, and crack-free with a shiny silver color.
