A magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) method was developed for simultaneous preconcentrations of U(VI) and Th(IV) before their measurements by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). The main idea of this biotechnological application depends on the use of bacteria, thermophilic Bacillus cereus SO-14, as a solid-phase biosorbent. It was immobilized to γ-FeO magnetic nanoparticles and used for MSPE.

Mycotoxins are toxic compounds produced by the metabolism of certain fungi that threaten the food and agricultural industry. Over hundreds of mycotoxins, one of the most common toxins, zearalenone (ZEN), has toxic effects on human and animal health due to its mutagenicity, treatogenicity, carcinogenicity, nephrotoxicity, immunotoxicity, and genotoxicity. In this work, attenuated internal reflection spectroscopic ellipsometry (AIR-SE) combined with the signal amplification via surface plasmon resonance conditions that were proved to be a highly sensitive analytical tool in bio-sensing was developed for the sensitive and selective ZEN detection in cereal products such as corn, wheat, rice, and oat.

The use of monolithic [yttria (YO)-stabilized tetragonal zirconia (ZrO) polycrystalline] (Y-TZP) ceramics to restore teeth is expanding in dentistry. However, there are still some problems about color matching and the translucency of these ceramics. The employment of Y-TZP ceramics in aesthetically critical regions is questionable due to the insufficient translucency and opacity of the restorations.

This study aimed to examine the cross-sectional relationship between Ramadan fasting as a spiritual factor with prolonged hunger and disordered eating behaviors. The study was conducted in June 2016 (11th-29th days of Ramadan) and consisted of 238 fasting and 49 non-fasting adolescents. Risk of disordered eating was evaluated using the Eating Attitudes Test-26 (EAT-26) and Three Factor Eating Questionnaire-R18 (TFEQ-R18).

Genomic data are increasingly used for high resolution population genetic studies including those at the forefront of biological conservation. A key methodological challenge is determining sequence similarity clustering thresholds for RADseq data when no reference genome is available. These thresholds define the maximum permitted divergence among allelic variants and the minimum divergence among putative paralogues and are central to downstream population genomic analyses.

This paper reports the fabrication of an electrochemical DNA biosensor for the electrochemical determination of prednisone (PRD), which is a synthetic corticosteroid. For this purpose, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and a new polymer film poly(glyoxal-bis(2-hydroxyanil)) (P(GBHA)) were electrochemically deposited on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE), respectively. Then, an electrochemical DNA biosensor was prepared onto this electrode surface (GCE/AgNPs/P(GBHA)) by the immobilization of dsDNA using a chronoamperometry method.

Effectiveness of Bedside Lung Ultrasound for Clinical Follow-Up of Primary Spontaneous Pneumothorax Patients Treated With Tube Thoracostomy.

Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) is a common cause of presentation to emergency departments and subsequent hospitalization. Patients with large PSP are treated with tube thoracostomy (TT) and followed up with x-rays. In this study, we investigated the efficiency of bedside ultrasound and compared it with x-ray imaging for the clinical follow-up of PSP patients treated with TT.

A Rare Cause of Inguinal Mass: Round Ligament Cyst.

Round ligament mesothelial cyst is a rare cause of inguinal mass. Round ligament cysts are generally diagnosed during operation in cases who are operated with a pre-diagnosis of inguinal hernia. In this study, we aim to present two cases, who have applied to our clinic with the complaint of a mass in inguinal region and who are diagnosed as round ligament cyst, together with their ultrasound, magnetic resonance images and operation images.

Purpose: The 26S proteasome plays important roles in many intracellular processes and is therefore a critical intracellular cellular target for anticancer treatments. The primary aim of the current study was to identify critical proteins that may play roles in opposing the antisurvival effect of the proteasome inhibitor bortezomib together with the calcium-chelator BAPTA-AM in cancer cells using label-free LC-MS/MS. In addition, based on the results of the proteomic technique, a novel and more effective inhibitor combination involving bortezomib as well as OTSSP167 was developed for breast cancer cells.

Efficacy of sublingual immunotherapy for house dust mite allergic rhinitis.

In the present study, we investigated the outcomes of sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) in house dust mite-induced allergic rhinitis (HDM-AR) patients. In this prospective, multicentric study, 186 patients with AR who had positive skin prick test results for HDMs were included. The patients were administered SLIT using Staloral 300 for 1 year.

Twin gestation in a case of bicornuate uterus is extremely rare.
