Purpose: This multicenter, prospective, observational study aimed to compare Zilver PTX and Eluvia stents in real-world settings for treating femoropopliteal lesions as the differences in the 1-year outcomes of these stents have not been elucidated.
Materials And Methods: Overall, 200 limbs with native femoropopliteal artery disease were treated with Zilver PTX (96 limbs) or Eluvia (104 limbs) at 8 Japanese hospitals between February 2019 and September 2020. The primary outcome measure of this study was primary patency at 12 months, defined as a peak systolic velocity ratio of ≤2.

Cylindrical cages were known to cause subsidence after anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF); hence, they were gradually replaced by box-shaped cages. However, this phenomenon has been inconclusive due to limited information and short-term results. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify risk factors for subsidence after ACDF using titanium double cylindrical cages with mid-term follow-up periods.

Complex anatomical restrictions can lead to further interventions after the emergence of a postoperative aneurysm enlargement in thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for a thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA). A 75-year-old male underwent a TEVAR for a Crawford extent I TAAA. The main device and the distal extension were placed using a fenestrated technique, outside of the instructions for use.

A left atrial appendage aneurysm (LAAA) is a rare congenital or acquired anomaly that often causes fatal complications. Although many reports recommend surgical resection for treatment, there is no clear definition of LAAA. Therefore, the diagnosis and treatment are ambiguous.

The best treatment for ventricular functional mitral regurgitation still remains unclear. Papillary muscle tugging approximation (PMTA) is a technique known to preserve function of the sub-valvular apparatus, keeping it functionally in synch with the left ventricle systolic and diastolic dynamics. Herein, we present a case of mitral valve replacement with PMTA in a patient with severely impaired left ventricular function 14 years post initial mitral valve repair, which significantly improved during a course of 4 years after the reoperation without any complications.

Objective: We performed a retrospective observational study to demonstrate the surgical risks and long-term prognoses of intramedullary tumors in Japan using a multicenter registry authorized by the Neurospinal Society of Japan.
Methods: Data from 1,033 consecutive patients with intramedullary tumors, treated between 2009 and 2020, were collected from 58 centers. Patients with spinal lipomas or myxopapillary ependymomas were excluded.

Purpose: We aimed to identify the risk factors of critical bleeding and investigate the safety of recombinant activated factor VII (rFVIIa) in aortic surgery under hypothermic circulatory arrest (HCA).
Patients And Methods: The present single-center retrospective study compared the baseline characteristics of 144 patients who underwent aortic surgery under HCA at our institute. Among the total cohort of 144 patients, 42 received rFVIIa (rFVIIa group), while the remaining 102 patients did not (non-rFVIIa group).

Pulmonary valve stenosis and regurgitation can occur in the distant stages after intracardiac repair of tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). Aortic regurgitation (AR) can also occur, although it is rare in postoperative patients. However, there are few reports of simultaneous replacement of the pulmonary and aortic valves in young patients after intracardiac repair of TOF, and there are no clear guidelines for selecting a valve prosthesis in such patients.

Fatty acid-binding protein 4 (FABP4) is secreted from adipose tissue and acts as an adipokine, and an elevated circulating FABP4 level is associated with metabolic disorders and atherosclerosis. However, little is known about the causal link between circulating FABP4 level and mortality in a general population. We investigated the relationship between FABP4 concentration and mortality including cardiovascular death during a 12-year period in subjects of the Tanno-Sobetsu Study, a population-based cohort (n = 721, male/female: 302/419).

Here, we examined whether a combination of clinical variables can predict stroke risk factors that are assessed by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE).
Methods: The study population consisted of 209 consecutive AF patients with a CHADS2 score of 0 or 1 (58.

While isolated iliac artery aneurysm is rare, its rupture can lead to complete circulatory collapse and possibly death. Herein, we report a case of rupture of a large isolated aneurysm of the right common iliac artery that led to circulatory collapse and rapid endovascular repair saved the patient's life.

This study was to assess the efficacy of microdiscectomy, cage fixation, and right tranuncal foramintomy for the patients suffering from right radiulo-myelopathy. Anterior cervical foraminotomy was reported to be an effective option for the treatment of cervical degenerative radiculopathy but with the problem of recurrence. Since Hakuba reported the method of trans-unco-discal approach in 1976, it was designed as keyhole foraminotomy which was called transuncal approach, transpedicular approach or transvertebral approach.

Background: It is well known that low-dose, long-term macrolide therapy is effective against chronic inflammatory airway diseases. Oxidative stress is considered to be a key pathogenesis factor in those diseases. However, the mechanism of action of low-dose, long-term macrolide therapy remains unclear.

Spontaneous and chronic epidural hematoma (SSEH) in the lumbar spine is rare, and idiopathic and chronic SSEH in the lumbar spine is extremely rare disease. Most of lumbar SSEH were acute and secondary with trauma, hematologic disorders, drug, and surgical procedure. Only 20 cases of chronic SSEH in the lumbar spine have been reported and 14 cases among them were considered to be idiopathic.

Objective: Superficial temporal artery (STA)-to-middle cerebral artery (MCA) bypass is an established surgical technique for achieving revascularization. It is important to select the proper recipient artery of the MCA. Three-dimensional computed tomographic angiography (3D-CTA) and conventional angiography are useful in the selection process but need contrast agents.

Background: Several studies have shown the utility of left atrial (LA) function determined by two-dimensional or three-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D- or 3D-STE) for identifying patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF). However, whether 3D-STE is applicable for prediction of the recurrence of AF after catheter ablation (CA) remains unknown. We examined whether any 3D-STE parameters are better than 2D-STE parameters for the prediction of AF recurrence.

Background: Chronic vertebral artery occlusion (VAO) can be associated with ischemic stroke, as thrombi formed under blood flow stagnation around the stump of the VAO may migrate into the brain. We report a new mechanism of chronic VAO-associated ischemic stroke and a patient with cryptic recanalization of chronic VAO by head rotation.
Case Description: A 74-year-old man presented with chronic right VAO and repeated ischemic embolic stroke in the posterior circulation despite antiplatelet therapy.

OBJECTIVE Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) procedures are performed to treat patients with cervical myelopathy or radiculopathy. Dysphagia is a post-ACDF complication. When it coincides with prevertebral space enlargement and inflammation, surgical site infection and pharyngoesophageal perforation must be considered.

Some patients develop chronic subdural hematomas (CSDHs) after the clipping/coating of unruptured aneurysms. The risk factors are not well understood and while no preventive methods are currently available, arachnoid plasty (ARP) may intercept the development of postoperative CSDH. We investigated the risk factors for CSDH and the usefulness of ARP to prevent postoperative CSDH.
