Nowadays, consent to use donor bodies for medical education and research is obtained from the body donors and their families before the donation. Recently, the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists (IFAA) published guidelines that could restrict the appearance of cadaveric images in commercial anatomical resources such as textbooks and other educational products. These guidelines state that the donor must expressly consent to using such images for this purpose.

Extramammary Paget disease (EMPD) is a rare skin cancer that typically occurs in the anogenital area of older people. Since efficacy of treatments for metastatic or unresectable EMPD remains poor, development of a novel therapeutic approach is strongly desired. However, the lack of EMPD models has hampered investigation of EMPD.

Dysphagia development in heart failure patients: A scoping review.

Objective: Dysphagia significantly affects older adults, particularly those with heart failure (HF). This scoping review aimed to delineate the development of dysphagia and its contributing factors in patients with HF.

Methods: We systematically searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, and CENTRAL databases up to September 2023, focusing on studies involving HF patients aged 60 and above, particularly those assessing post-hospitalization dysphagia.

We investigated the association between self-reported sitting time and physical function according to the Kihon Checklist (KCL) among community-dwelling older adults.

Improvement of immunological tests for detecting autoantibodies in patients with lamina lucida-type linear IgA bullous dermatosis.

Background: In the diagnosis of linear IgA bullous dermatosis (LABD), detection of IgA at the epidermal basement membrane zone and circulating IgA autoantibodies are essential. The disease has two subtypes, lamina lucida-type and sublamina densa-type, with 120 kDa LAD-1 and 97 kDa LABD97 as major autoantigens for lamina lucida-type. Normal human epidermal keratinocytes (NHEK) and HaCaT cells are widely used for immunoblotting (IB) in the diagnosis process, but they do not provide high sensitivity and semiquantitative analysis.

Adjunctive effects of eltrombopag on immunosuppressive therapy for childhood aplastic anemia.

Eltrombopag is used with first-line immunosuppressive therapy for adult aplastic anemia, although its practical utility in childhood remains unclear. We retrospectively analyzed the outcomes of pediatric patients who received eltrombopag in Japan. Of the 27 eligible patients, 23 (85%) were previously treated, and 15 (56%) had severe or very-severe disease.

The Transverse Humeral Ligament: An Anatomical Narrative Review.

Shoulder pain often involves the tendon of the long head of the biceps brachii (LHBT) and the transverse humeral ligament (THL). Traditionally, the THL is considered a ligament that prevents the LHBT from dislocating, but recent studies suggest that it may be part of the subscapularis tendon. This review evaluates the nature of the THL and its overlying structures.

A prospective comparison of implant quality between suture-coated seeds and uncoated seeds in prostate cancer brachytherapy.

Purpose: Displacement minimization of seeds is crucial during surgery in brachytherapy; however, only a few reports have compared the operability of different seeds. TheraStrand-SL is a seed, in which TheraAGX100 is wrapped in polyglactin 910 thread, and intra-prostatic displacement is expected to be reduced compared with that of Thera-AGX100, owing to the complex shape of TheraStrand-SL. We conducted a prospective study on the operability and treatment outcomes of TheraAGX100 and TheraStrand-SL placement by a single operator.

We report a case of solid papillary carcinoma (SPC) that developed at the site of a previous intraductal papilloma (IDP) with atypical ductal hyperplasia. This case supports IDP as a potential precursor lesion to SPC.

Objectives　We evaluated the number of hospitalizations among public assistance recipients for each major classification according to the International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision (ICD-10), adjusting for sex and age differences in the general Japanese population. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive assessment of hospitalization patterns among public assistance recipients by disease category.Methods　We used indirect methods to adjust for sex and age, with public assistance recipients and the entire Japanese population as the observation and reference groups, respectively.

Epstein-Barr virus-associated lymphoproliferative disease during remission after induction therapy with dasatinib in Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia: a case report.

Dasatinib, a second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor, has been reported to have immunomodulatory effects. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated lymphoproliferative disorders (EBV-LPD) occur in immunocompromised patients, such as those receiving methotrexate or other immunosuppressive drugs or after allogenic transplantation. EBV-LPD is also reported to be a rare side effect in patients receiving long-term dasatinib or imatinib.

Background Research on nursing care needs (NCNs) for critically ill patients at discharge is scarce. This study aimed to quantify and compare NCNs at discharge between patients with severe COVID-19 and septic shock and to identify factors associated with higher NCNs. Methodology We retrospectively analyzed data from the Diagnosis Procedure Combination database between April 1, 2020, and March 31, 2023, on patients requiring ventilators in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Efficacy and safety of baricitinib in rheumatoid arthritis patients with moderate renal impairment: a multicenter propensity score matching study.

Background: This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of baricitinib in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) receiving different doses based on renal function.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study within the JAK Study Group, involving 23 facilities in Fukuoka Prefecture, examining patients treated with baricitinib for RA. Patients were categorized into two dose groups: 4 mg with normal/mild renal dysfunction and 2 mg with moderate renal dysfunction.

Background: Transradial access (TRA) is not a common vascular access in children. We have been performing TRA actively to reduce puncture complications, and the purpose of this study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of TRA in young children.

Background: The factors contributing to the development of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) following infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) remain unclear. Although the presence of immune complexes (ICs), formed between antibodies and their antigens, has been linked to COVID-19 severity, their role requires further investigation, and the antigens within these ICs are yet to be characterized.

Method: Here, a C1q enzyme-liked immunosorbent assay and immune complexome analysis were used to determine IC concentrations and characterize IC antigens, respectively, in the sera of 64 unvaccinated COVID-19 patients with PCR-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, enrolled at seven participating centers in 2020.

Predictive factors of progression in mild fibrosing interstitial lung disease patients with gender-age-physiology score of 3 or less.

Background: The prognostic factors in mild fibrosing interstitial lung disease (FILD) have not been established.

Methods: We retrospectively attempted to identify predictive factors of annual progression in mild FILD with gender-age-physiology (GAP) score of 3 or less using logistic regression analysis. Annual FILD progression was defined as meeting any two or more of the following conditions: 1, more than 10% decrease in forced vital capacity (FVC) or 15% decrease in diffusing capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide (D); 2, worsening of dyspnea; 3, worsening of fibrotic change on CT at 1 year after admission.

Prohibitins (PHBs) are ubiquitously expressed proteins in the mitochondrial inner membrane (MIM) that provide membrane scaffolds for both mitochondrial proteins and phospholipids. Eukaryotic PHB complexes contain two highly homologous PHB subunits, PHB1 and PHB2, which are involved in various cellular processes, including metabolic control through the regulation of mitochondrial dynamics and integrity. Their mechanistic actions at the molecular level, however, particularly those of PHB1, remain poorly understood.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with rapid kidney enlargement after induction of hemodialysis in a patient with IgG4-related disease.

A 76-year-old Japanese man was incidentally diagnosed with a pancreatic head tumor on computed tomography after surgery for colon cancer. He underwent pancreatoduodenectomy and was diagnosed with IgG4-related autoimmune pancreatitis. Concurrent chronic kidney disease gradually progressed and chronic hemodialysis was introduced 2 years later.
