Dinuclear complexes bearing Ru(II) photoactive centers are of interest for the development of efficient dual catalysts for many photocatalyzed reactions. Ditopic polypyridine ligands, bis(pyridin-2-yl)amino-1,10-phenanthrolines, containing an additional coordination site (bis(pyridin-2-yl)amine, dpa) at positions 3, 4 or 5 of the 1,10-phenanthroline core (Phen-3NPy2, Phen-4NPy2 and Phen-5NPy2) were synthesized. They were used as bridging ligands to obtain dinuclear complexes [(bpy)Ru(Phen-NPy2)PdCl](PF) (Ru(Phen-NPy2)Pd) in good yields stepwise complexation.

An exceptional efficiency of pyrazine-annelated porphyrin as a general photocatalyst for the oxidation of organic sulfides is demonstrated. It is shown that phosphonate-substituted pyrazinoporphyrin 2H-1 brings together sufficient photostability and high efficiency in the aerobic photooxidation of a series of various sulfides. The influence of the reaction conditions onto the efficiency of homogeneous sulfide photooxidation in the presence of the photosensitizer (PS) was investigated and strong dependence on the solvent system was observed.

Photonic crystals (PCs) consisting of a periodic arrangement of holes in dielectric media have found success in light manipulation and sensing. Among them, three-dimensional (3D) PCs are in high demand due to their unique properties originating from multiple photonic band gaps (PBGs) and even full ones. Here, 3D PCs based on porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) were fabricated for the first time.

The possibility of targeted change of the properties of ion exchange membranes by incorporation of various nanoparticles into the membranes is attracting the attention of many research groups. Here we studied for the first time the influence of cerium phosphate nanoparticles on the physicochemical and transport properties of commercial anion exchange membranes based on quaternary ammonium-functionalized polystyrenes, such as heterogeneous Ralex AM and pseudo-homogeneous Neosepta AMX. The incorporation of cerium phosphate on one side of the membrane was performed by precipitation from absorbed cerium ammonium nitrate (CAN) anionic complex with ammonium dihydrogen phosphate or phosphoric acid.

A novel system of three potentiometric cross-sensitive sensors (using the Donnan potential (DP) as an analytical signal) and a reference electrode was developed for the analysis of UV-degraded sulfacetamide drugs. The membranes for DP-sensors were prepared by a casting procedure from a dispersion of perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA) polymer, containing carbon nanotubes (CNTs), whose surface was preliminarily modified with carboxyl, sulfonic acid, or (3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilanol groups.

Polymorphism is a common phenomenon among single- and multicomponent molecular crystals that has a significant impact on the contemporary drug development process. A new polymorphic form of the drug carbamazepine (CBZ) cocrystal with methylparaben (MePRB) in a 1:1 molar ratio as well as the drug's channel-like cocrystal containing highly disordered coformer molecules have been obtained and characterized in this work using various analytical methods, including thermal analysis, Raman spectroscopy, and single-crystal and high-resolution synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction. Structural analysis of the solid forms revealed a close resemblance between novel form II and previously reported form I of the [CBZ + MePRB] (1:1) cocrystal in terms of hydrogen bond networks and overall packing arrangements.

Polymer films doped by different porphyrins, obtained by crystallization from the acetone solutions, differ in absorption and fluorescence spectra, which we attribute to the differences in the structuring and composition of the rotational isomers in the polymer chains. According to the infrared spectroscopy data, the crystallization of the films doped with tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP) proceeds in a mixture of α- and γ-phases with TGTG and TGTG conformations, respectively. Three bonds in the planar zigzag conformation ensures the contact of such segments with the active groups of the porphyrin macrocycle, significantly changing its electronic state.

The balance between the mitochondrial respiratory chain activity and the cell's needs in ATP ensures optimal cellular function. Cytochrome c is an essential component of the electron transport chain (ETC), which regulates ETC activity, oxygen consumption, ATP synthesis and can initiate apoptosis. The impact of conformational changes in cytochrome c on its function is not understood for the lack of access to these changes in intact mitochondria.

An array of highly oriented anatase nanoparticles was successfully prepared from NHTiOF with the assistance of polyetheleneglycol-400 at 450 °C. The study showed the stability of obtained layered TiO-anatase close to 1200 °C. This research confirmed for the first time that the transition of mesocrystalline anatase to the rutile phase occurs between 1000 °C and 1200 °C, which is more than 400 °C higher than the transition of bulk TiO due to the used precursor.

The anodizing of aluminium under oscillating conditions is a versatile and reproducible method for the preparation of one-dimensional photonic crystals (PhCs). Many anodizing parameters have been optimised to improve the optical properties of anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) PhCs. However, the influence of the crystallographic orientation of an Al substrate on the characteristics of AAO PhCs has not been considered yet.

Polybenzimidazoles (PBI) doped with phosphoric acid (PA) are promising electrolytes for medium temperature fuel cells. Their significant disadvantage is a partial or complete loss of mechanical properties and an increase in hydrogen permeability at elevated temperatures. Covalent silanol crosslinking is one possible way to stabilize PBI membranes in the presence of PA.

The self-ordered anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) structure consists of micron-scale domains-defect-free areas with a hexagonal arrangement of pores. A substantial increase in domain size is possible solely by pre-patterning the aluminium surface in the form of a defect-free hexagonal array of concaves, which guide the pore growth during subsequent anodization. Among the numerous pre-patterning techniques, direct etching by focused gallium ion beam (Ga FIB) allows the preparation of AAO with a custom-made geometry through precise control of the irradiation positions, beam energy, and ion dosage.

Self-assembly of organic ions in aqueous solutions is a hot topic at the present time, and substances that are well-soluble in water are usually studied. In this work, aqueous solutions of sodium diclofenac are investigated, which, like most medicinal compounds, is poorly soluble in water. Classical MD modeling of an aqueous solution of diclofenac sodium showed equilibrium between the hydrated anion and the hydrated dimer of the diclofenac anion.

Anodization of aluminum with a pre-patterned surface is a promising approach for preparing anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) films with defect-free pore arrangement. Although pronounced effects of crystallographic orientation of Al on the AAO structure have been demonstrated, all current studies on the anodization of pre-patterned aluminum consider the substrate as an isotropic medium and, thus, do not consider the azimuthal orientation of the pattern relative to the basis vectors of the Al unit cell. Here, we investigate the interplay between the azimuthal alignment of the pore nuclei array and the crystallographic orientation of aluminum.
