The effect of sitagliptin and empagliflozin on serum levels of asprosin and metabolic parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) was assessed in a non-randomized, prospective observational study. Seventy-nine T2DM patients, without adequate glycemic control with metformin monotherapy, were included in the study. In addition to the ongoing metformin treatment, patients received sitagliptin 100 mg and empagliflozin 10 mg once daily for 12 weeks.

Background: Distinguishing high-grade gliomas (HGGs) from brain metastases (BMs) using perfusion-weighted imaging (PWI) remains challenging. PWI offers quantitative measurements of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and cerebral blood volume (CBV), but optimal PWI parameters for differentiation are unclear.
Purpose: To compare CBF and CBV derived from PWIs in HGGs and BMs, and to identify the most effective PWI parameters and techniques for differentiation.

Aim: To investigate the impact of ongoing workshop training of the "Helping Babies Breathe" program on the durability of midwives' knowledge and skills.
Background: Implementing the Helping Babies Breathe (HBB) program is crucial as a simple protocol for neonatal resuscitation in low-resource healthcare settings to decrease the rate of asphyxia and perinatal mortality by the initial healthcare providers. In addition to training in this program, it is also essential to guarantee the retention of the acquired knowledge and skills.

Tumor-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) are one of the most important ways of intercellular communication and signaling. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) secrete EVs to modulate immune checkpoint molecules and evade immune surveillance. Activated CD8 T cells known as cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) are the most powerful anti-cancer adaptive cells.

Thyroid and gonadotropin hormones play an essential role in the regulation of regulating various physiological functions. The effects of melatonin and zinc (Zn) on these hormones have already been investigated. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of melatonin with and without zinc on the levels of gonadotropin hormones and thyroid hormones (triiodothyronine (T), thyroxine (T) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)) in female rats.

Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are pivotal in medicine, mimicking biological receptors with enhanced specificity and affinity. Comprising templates, functional monomers, and cross-linkers, MIPs form stable three-dimensional polymer networks. Synthetic templates like glycan and aptamers improve efficiency, guiding the molecular imprinting process.

Interleukin (IL)-23 inhibitor monoclonal antibodies shown significant efficacy in treating autoimmune diseases. DNA or RNA aptamers exhibit comparable specificity to antibodies, are cost-effective, non-immunogenic, and do not have batch to batch variation. This study aimed to characterize a single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) aptamer targeting human IL-23.

Aquaporins (AQPs) are small, integral proteins facilitating water transport across plasma cell membranes in response to osmotic gradients. This family has 13 unique members (AQP0-12), which can also transport glycerol, urea, gases, and other salute small molecules. AQPs play a crucial role in the regulation of different cellular processes, including metabolism, migration, immunity, barrier function, and angiogenesis.

Objective: Secreted frizzled-related protein 1 (SFRP1) is an adipokine whose production is significantly altered in metabolic disorders. Considering the relationship between dysfunction of Wnt/β-catenin signaling and metabolic disorders as well as the inhibitory effects of SFRP1 on this signaling pathway, the present work aimed to investigate the correlation between serum SFRP1 levels and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its developing risk factors for the first time.
Methods: This case-control study measured serum levels of SFRP1, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6, adiponectin, and fasting insulin using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits in 80 T2DM patients and 80 healthy individuals.

This case report details the journey of a 51-year-old man residing in a remote Iranian village, involved in livestock rearing, who was hospitalized due to Brucellosis contracted from consuming traditional cheese and dairy products. Initially treated with doxycycline and rifampin, complications arose during antituberculosis therapy, with the patient developing symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and edema alongside renal function deterioration necessitating medication cessation. Subsequent manifestations of proteinuria, toxic hepatitis, and nephrotic syndrome prompted renal biopsy, revealing drug-induced glomerular and tubular damage.
