Recent studies have shown that ultrashort plasma cell-free DNA (uscfDNA), a novel type of cfDNA fragment approximately 50 nucleotides long, differs from conventional monocyte-derived cfDNA in several aspects, including specific extraction requirements and a higher incidence of tumor-specific genetic alterations. uscfDNA shows promise in enhancing liquid biopsy sensitivity for cancer detection, with distinct methylation profiles observed in cancer patients. These findings suggest uscfDNA analysis could significantly improve non-invasive cancer diagnostics, offering new avenues for early detection and personalized medicine strategies.

Background: The pathogenesis of postoperative complications in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compressive fractures (OVCFs) undergoing percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) is multifaceted, with local biomechanical deterioration playing a pivotal role. Specifically, the disparity in stiffness between the bone cement and osteoporotic cancellous bone can precipitate interfacial stress concentrations, potentially leading to cement-augmented vertebral body collapse and clinical symptom recurrence. This study focuses on the biomechanical implications of the space between the bone cement and bony endplate (BEP), hypothesizing that this interface may be a critical locus for stress concentration and subsequent vertebral failure.

Objective: Tamoxifen resistance of breast cancer (BC) is a significant hindrance in clinical therapy. The long-noncoding RNA (lncRNA) TTN-AS1 has been reported as a crucial tumor promoting factor in various cancers. In this study, we set out to discover the specific pathologic regulatory mechanisms of tamoxifen-resistance in breast cancer.

Objective: To investigate the effects of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) using a novel YL-1 puncture needle and summarize the risk factors of recurrence in chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH). Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis in 516 hospitalized patients with CSDH from January 2013 to December 2018 in Northern Jiangsu People’s Hospital. Patients’ gender, age, history of trauma, use of anticoagulants, history of disturbed liver or renal function, history of heart disease, history of malignant tumor, history of diabetes, hemodialysis, coagulopathy, alcoholism, imaging indicators, and postoperative application of urokinase or atorvastatin were recorded.

Liver tumor-initiating cells (T-ICs) contribute to tumorigenesis, progression, recurrence and drug resistance of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the underlying mechanism for the propagation of liver T-ICs remains unclear. In the present study, our finding shows that miR-96 is upregulated in liver T-ICs.
