Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of programmed cell death driven by oxidative stress, plays a crucial role in the progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Aging diminishes antioxidant systems that maintain iron homeostasis, particularly affecting the glutathione peroxidase (GPX) system, leading to increased ferroptosis and exacerbated neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation in AD. Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a key transcription factor regulating genes involved in antioxidant defense and ferroptosis.

Introduction: ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome) is the most severe form of acute hypoxic respiratory failure. Most studies related to ARDS have excluded patients with hematologic diseases, let alone allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) recipients. Numerous patients experiencing severe hypoxic respiratory failure do not meet the Berlin definition due to the limitations of diagnosis and treatment.

Background: Considering the therapeutic difficulties and mortality associated with bloodstream infection (BSI), it is essential to investigate other potential factors affecting mortality in critically ill patients with BSI and examine the utility of the quick Pitt bacteremia (qPitt) score to improve the survival rate.
Objectives: To improve the predictive accuracy of the qPitt scoring system by evaluating the five current components of qPitt and including other potential factors influencing mortality in critically ill patients with BSI.
Design: This was a retrospective cohort study.

It has been reported that Banxia-houpo decoction (BXHPD) serves as the anti-depressant treatment for a mild and severe depressive disease with limited side effects. The present study was performed to evaluate the protective effect of BXHPD on chronic unpredicted mild stress (CUMS)-induced depression and explore its effect on TrkA/Akt-mediated microglia polarization. The CUMS procedure was carried out, and the mice were intragastrically treated with BXHPD once daily.

Background: Hepatic fibrosis, a common pathological feature of chronic liver injuries, is a serious public health problem and lacks effective therapy. Glycyrrhizic acid (GA) is a bioactive ingredient in the root of traditional Chinese medicine licorice, and exhibits remarkable anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective actions.
Purpose: Here we aimed to investigated whether GA provided a therapeutic efficacy in hepatic fibrosis and uncover its molecular mechanisms.

Background: The activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α) stimulates the transcription of the downstream target proteins, mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) and nuclear respiratory factor 1 (NRF1), which induces mitochondrial biogenesis and promotes colorectal tumorigenesis. Agrimol B (Agr) is a constituent of Ledeb. that exerts anticancer effects.

Introduction: Considering the importance of ceftazidime/avibactam (CAZ/AVI) and polymyxin B (PMB) in treating carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) infection, it is essential to evaluate the efficacy and safety of these agents and provide appropriate medical advice to clinical specialists.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study in two Chinese tertiary hospitals for critically ill patients with CRKP infection who received at least 24-h CAZ/AVI-based or PMB-based treatment. A binary logistic model and a Cox proportional hazards regression model were constructed to analyze variables that could potentially affect 30-day microbiological eradication and all-cause mortality, respectively.

To observe the difference in the risk of polymyxin B (PMB)-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) with or without dose adjustment based on the patients renal function. This retrospective cohort analysis was carried out in 115 patients treated with PMB from November 2018 to October 2019. No significant difference in the incidence of AKI as well as secondary outcomes was observed between these two groups (47.

Goal: The goal of this study was to further determine the role of lactated Ringer (LR) compared with normal saline (NS) in managing acute pancreatitis (AP) as a consideration of fluid resuscitation.
Background: Fluid resuscitation play a critically important role in managing AP, and NS and LR solutions were common selection in clinical practice. However, it remains debate about which regime may be more better for patients with AP.

Background: Chronic pulmonary heart disease (CPHD) is a common type of heart disease. In China, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the main causes of CPHD. At present, there is no specific therapy for COPD-induced CPHD, so it is of great importance to identify a new therapy for CPHD.

Background: No clinical study has investigated the use of ceftazidime-avibactam combination schemes with an in vitro non-susceptible antimicrobial that could be superior to ceftazidime-avibactam monotherapy against carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae.
Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study at two tertiary hospitals in China for patients with carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae infection treated with ceftazidime-avibactam for at least 72Â h. A Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to evaluate covariates that potentially affected 30-day mortality.

Aims: Cyclophosphamide (CP) is a common therapeutic drug for cancer, but exposure to CP can cause acute hepatotoxicity. This study aimed to elucidate the protective effects of Ligustrazine (2, 3, 5, 6-tetramethylpyrazine, TMP) on hepatotoxicity induced by CP or its active metabolite 4-hydroperoxycyclophosphamide (4-HC).
Main Methods: We presented a comprehensive investigation about the hepatoprotection of TMP on CP-induced mice and 4-HC-treated HSC-LX2 cells.

Gastric cancer is one of the most common causes of cancer-related death worldwide. Immunotherapy via programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) blockade has shown benefits for gastric cancer. Epigenetic DNA methylation critically regulates cancer immune checkpoints.

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and its receptor (IL-6R) were regarded to be responsible for the occurrence of gastric cancer for their regulation roles in the inflammation. The genetic variations in these two genes (IL-6: rs6949149, rs1800796, rs10499563 and IL-6R: rs2228145) have been suggested to be associated with gastric cancer risk. However, the published results were inconsistent among subjects of different ethnicity.

MiR-92a was identified as an essential oncogene by promoting the cell proliferation through FBXW7 in gastric cancer (GC). The function of the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) located in the mature region of miR-92a (rs9589207) has not been investigated. We found that rs9589207 in miR-92a was involved in the occurrence of GC by acting as a tumor protective factor and was highly associated with tumor size in GC patients instead of tumor number or metastasis in 554 GC patients and 531 cancer-free controls.
