In contrast to mammalian cells, bacterial cells lack mRNA polyadenylated tails, presenting a hurdle in isolating mRNA amidst the prevalent rRNA during single-cell RNA-seq. This study introduces a novel method, ribosomal RNA-derived cDNA depletion (RiboD), seamlessly integrated into the PETRI-seq technique, yielding RiboD-PETRI. This innovative approach offers a cost-effective, equipment-free, and high-throughput solution for bacterial single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq).

A central goal of cancer genomics is to identify, in each patient, all the cancer-driving mutations. Among them, point mutations are referred to as cancer-driving nucleotides (CDNs), which recur in cancers. The companion study shows that the probability of recurrent hits in patients would decrease exponentially with ; hence, any mutation with ≥ 3 hits in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database is a high-probability CDN.

Background: Despite extensive knowledge of tuberculosis (TB) and its control, there remains a significant gap in understanding the comprehensive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on TB incidence patterns. This study aims to explore the impact of COVID-19 on the pattern of pulmonary tuberculosis in China and examine the application of time series models in the analysis of these patterns, providing valuable insights for TB prevention and control.
Methods: We used pre-COVID-19 pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) data (2007-2018) to fit SARIMA, Prophet, and LSTM models, assessing their ability to predict PTB incidence trends.

Rationale: Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (LAMN) is a clinically rare tumor that predominantly occurs in females and presents with nonspecific symptoms, often resulting in misdiagnosis. While postoperative pathology remains the gold standard for diagnosis, accurate preoperative identification through various diagnostic methods is essential for effective treatment planning. To raise awareness of this condition, we present a case of a middle-aged male diagnosed with LAMN.

Vidarabine (VID) is an antiviral medication that is commonly utilized to treat conditions such as hand, foot, and mouth disease and herpes. Constipation is a prevalent complication of these diseases. Could VID treat these diseases by influencing defecation behavior? To date, no studies have been conducted on the potential of VID to relieve constipation.

To address this issue, we presented a simple, seedless method for synthesizing uniform HIF-Au NCs in an aqueous solution, which remarkably reduced the synthesis difficulty. Interestingly, the protonated NH which served as both the reducing and capping agent played a crucial role in modulating the kinetic growth of the HIF-Au NCs.

Background: Understanding how the COVID-19 pandemic evolved under control measures is crucial to tackle the SARS-CoV-2 virus spread. Laos, a country bordering China but with late occurrence and low burden of COVID-19 compared to its neighbouring countries, was used for a case study.
Methods: A transmission model with disease reporting was proposed to investigate the impact of control measures on the SARS-CoV-2 virus spread in Laos from April 2021 to May 2022.

Mosaic loss of Y chromosome (mLOY) is an acquired condition wherein a sizeable proportion of an organ's cells have lost their Y. Large-scale cohort studies have shown that mLOY is age-dependent and a strong risk factor for all-cause mortality and adverse outcomes of age-related diseases. Emerging multi-omics approaches that combine gene expression, epigenetic and mutational profiling of human LOY cell populations at single-cell levels, and contemporary work in in vitro cell and preclinical mouse models have provided important clues into how mLOY mechanistically contributes to disease onset and progression.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate whether noise exposure in hospital sterile supply centers exacerbated the psychological burden on staff, potentially mediated by concerns about physiological health.
Methods: Between July 5 and August 4, 2023, 308 staffs from central sterile supply departments in 30 hospitals in Hainan were chosen by convenient sampling method. They completed self-administered questionnaires to assess noise exposure status and used the Self-Reporting Inventory-90 to quantify the psychological state of staff across three dimensions: somatization, anxiety, and sleep and diet.

Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of safflower yellow (SY) combined with low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) in preventing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) after orthopedic surgery.
Methods: We conducted a comprehensive investigation of PubMed, EMbase, Cochrane Library, CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang databases to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from January 2000 to March 2024. These trials compared the efficacy of SY combined with LMWH versus LMWH alone in preventing post-surgical DVT.

Objectives: This study aims to elucidate the role of cAMP responsive element binding protein 3 like 4 (CREB3L4) in the pathogenesis of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and to provide new insights and approaches for its effective treatment. An analysis was conducted on the expression and prognostic implications of CREB3L4 in LUAD.
Methods: Potential downstream target genes regulated by CREB3L4 were identified through chromatin immunoprecipitation assay sequencing and mRNA sequencing analyses, and the regulatory relationship, mechanism, and prognostic significance of the identified target gene in LUAD were subsequently confirmed.
Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy of combination scalp acupuncture in treating post-stroke cognitive impairment.
Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted across eight databases: PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Database, Embase, CBM, CNKI, WanFang, and VIP, targeting randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published from the inception of these databases until October 24, 2024. The inclusion criteria focused on RCTs that compared scalp acupuncture with conventional treatments as therapeutic interventions for patients suffering from post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI).

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are involved in the occurrence and development of various tumors. CircRNAs can act as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), which are important regulatory networks, by regulating microRNAs (miRNAs). However, the effects of ceRNA networks on lung cancer (LC), especially the circRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory network, remain incompletely understood.
