2D-layered materials are recognized as up-and-coming candidates to overcome the intrinsic physical limitation of silicon-based devices. Herein, the coexistence of positive persistent photoconductivity (PPPC) and negative persistent photoconductivity (NPPC) in SnSe thin films prepared by pulsed laser deposition provides an excellent avenue for engineering novel devices. It is determined that surface oxygen is co-regulated by physisorption and chemisorption, and the NPPC is attributed to the photo-controllable oxygen desorption behavior.

A study is conducted on a GaAs-based high-contrast subwavelength chiral metasurface (HCCM) designed for 1064 nm. The metasurface integrates a high-contrast subwavelength grating (HCG) for TM mode modulation, a SiO support layer, and a compact quarter-waveplate (QWP) to convert linearly polarized light to circularly polarized light. The HCG achieves ultra-high reflectivity at 1064 nm, attributed to the large refractive index contrast between the Si grating and SiO2 layer.

Monocrystalline barium fluoride (BaF), known for its exceptional optical properties in the infrared spectrum, exhibits anisotropy that influences surface quality and material removal efficiency during ultraprecision machining. This research explores the impact of anisotropy on the deformation and removal mechanisms of monocrystalline BaF by integrating nanoscratch tests with molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Nanoscratch tests conducted on variously oriented monocrystalline BaF surfaces using a ramp loading mode facilitated the identification of surface cracks and a systematic description of material removal behaviors.

The introduction of single-atom catalysts (SACs) into Fenton-like oxidation promises ultrafast water pollutant elimination, but the limited access to pollutants and oxidant by surface catalytic sites and the intensive oxidant consumption still severely restrict the decontamination performance. While nanoconfinement of SACs allows drastically enhanced decontamination reaction kinetics, the detailed regulatory mechanisms remain elusive. Here, we unveil that, apart from local enrichment of reactants, the catalytic pathway shift is also an important cause for the reactivity enhancement of nanoconfined SACs.

This paper presents a 14-bit hybrid column-parallel compact analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for the application of digital infrared focal plane arrays (IRFPAs) with compromised power and speed performance. The proposed hybrid ADC works in two phases: in the first phase, a 7-bit successive approximation register (SAR) ADC performs coarse quantization; in the second phase, a 7-bit single-slope (SS) ADC performs fine quantization to complete the residue voltage conversion. In this work, the number of unit capacitors is reduced to 1/128th of that of a conventional 14-bit SAR ADC, which is beneficial for the application of small pixel-pitch IRFPAs.

PtS2, a member of the group 10 transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), has received extensive attention because of its excellent electrical properties and air stability. However, there are few reports on the preparation of single-crystal PtS2 in the literature, and the growth mechanism of single crystal PtS2 is not well elucidated. In this work, we proposed a method of preparation that combines magnetron sputtering and chemical vapor transport to obtain monocrystalline PtS2 on a SiO2/Si substrate.

With the continuous evolution of autonomous driving and unmanned driving systems, traditional limitations such as a limited field-of-view, poor ranging accuracy, and real-time display are becoming inadequate to satisfy the requirements of binocular stereo-perception systems. Firstly, we designed a binocular stereo-imaging-perception system with a wide-field-of-view and infrared- and visible light-dual-band fusion. Secondly we proposed a binocular stereo-perception optical imaging system with a wide field-of-view of 120.

The utilization of hot carriers as a means to surpass the Shockley-Queasier limit represents a promising strategy for advancing highly efficient photovoltaic devices. Quantum dots, owing to their discrete energy states and limited multi-phonon cooling process, are regarded as one of the most promising materials. However, in practical implementations, the presence of numerous defects and discontinuities in colloidal quantum dot (CQD) films significantly curtails the transport distance of hot carriers.

Plasmonic spectral filters composed of periodic nanostructured metal films offer novel opportunities for the development of multispectral imaging technologies in the mid-infrared region. However, traditional plasmonic filters, which typically feature simplistic structures such as nanoholes or nanorings, are constrained by a narrow bandpass and significant crosstalk, leading to limited practical performance. Filters designed using inverse techniques allow a substantial degree of freedom in creating intricate structures that align with desired spectral characteristics, including a quasi-square spectral profile, high transmission, wide full width at half maximum, and reduced crosstalk.

Heterojunctions based on low dimensional semiconducting materials are one of the most promising alternatives for next-generation optoelectronic devices. By choosing different dopants in high-quality semiconducting nanomaterials, p-n junctions can be realized with tailored energy band alignments. Also, p-n bulk-heterojunctions (BHJs) based photodetectors have shown high detectivity because of the suppressed dark current and high photocurrent, which are due to the larger built-in electric potential within the depletion region and can significantly improve the quantum efficiency by reducing the carriers' recombination.

Lead sulfide colloidal quantum dots (PbS CQDs) are promising optoelectronic materials due to their unique properties, such as tunable band gap and strong absorption, which are of immense interest for application in photodetectors and solar cells. However, the tunable band gap of PbS CQDs would only cover visible short-wave infrared; the ability to detect longer wavelengths, such as mid- and long-wave infrared, is limited because they are restricted by the band gap of the bulk material. In this paper, a novel photodetector based on the synergistic effect of PbS CQDs and bismuth telluride (BiTe) was developed for the detection of a mid-wave infrared band at room temperature.

Dispersion is present in every optical setup and is often an undesired effect, especially in nonlinear-optical experiments where ultrashort laser pulses are needed. Typically, bulky pulse compressors consisting of gratings or prisms are used to address this issue by precompensating the dispersion of the optical components. However, these devices are only able to compensate for a part of the dispersion (second-order dispersion).

Based on first-principles calculations and symmetry analysis, we propose that trigonal CaI with the space group 3̄1 possesses straight and twisted open nodal-line phonon states with linear dispersion. The symmetry analysis indicates that joint symmetry and rotational symmetry protect the straight nodal lines along - and - while and mirror symmetry () maintain the twisted nodal lines that traverse - (-) and - (-). The calculated π Berry phase suggests that all the nodal lines are nontrivial and the corresponding drumhead-like surface states are clearly visible in the observation window, which is less than 6 THz, suggesting a significant chance for them to be measured using meV-resolution inelastic X-ray scattering.
