Front Med (Lausanne)

November 2024

Department of Dermatology, Ganmei Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, First People's Hospital of Kunming, Kunming, China.

Background: Several observational studies have suggested that type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a risk factor for skin cancer, and antidiabetic drugs may reduce skin cancer risk. Nevertheless, the findings remain ambiguous. This Mendelian randomization (MR) study aimed to investigate the causal association of T2D with skin cancer and evaluate the potential impact of antidiabetic drug targets on skin cancer.

YTHDF1 enhances stemness and chemoresistance in triple-negative breast cancer cells by upregulating SIAH2.

Mol Carcinog

March 2024

Department of Mammary Surgery I, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University (Yunnan Cancer Hospital, Yunnan Cancer Center), Kunming, China.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most lethal and aggressive subtype of breast cancer, and chemoresistance is the major determinant of TNBC treatment failure. This study explores the molecular mechanism of TNBC chemoresistance. The Cancer Genome Atlas, breast cancer integrative platform, and GEPIA databases were used to analyze the expression and correlation of YTHDF1 and seven in absentia homology 2 (SIAH2) in breast cancer.

Background/aim: Human dental pulp mesenchymal stem cells (hDPSCs) are considered to be a good cell source for cell-based clinical therapy, due to the advantages of high proliferation capacity, multilineage differentiation potential, immune regulation abilities, less ethnic concerns and non-invasive access. However, hDPSCs were traditionally isolated and expanded in medium containing fetal bovine serum (FBS), which is a barrier for clinical application due to the safety issues (virus transmission and allergy). Although many studies make efforts to screen out a suitable culture medium, the results are not promising so far.

Background: Axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) can be safely avoided in women with T1 or T2 primary invasive breast cancer (BC) and one to two metastatic sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs). However, cancellation of ALND based solely on SLN biopsy (SLNB) may lead to adverse outcomes. Therefore, preoperative assessment of LN tumor burden becomes a new focus for ALN status.

Objectives: Worldwide, around 18.2% of cervical cancer occurred in China, mainly because of lower screening coverage and screening quality in regional disparities. To assess self-sampling for human papillomavirus (HPV) testing, combined with the internet, as a primary cervical cancer screening (CCS) method in low-resource settings, and to establish an internet-based self-sampling CCS-management model.

Centrally located cytoplasmic granulation (central granulation) is a common cytoplasmic dysmorphism in human oocytes retrieved after controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH). In order to achieve a better understanding of its formation and effects on clinical outcomes, we retrospectively analyzed 422 ICSI treatment cycles. Three groups of patients were classified according to the ratio of central granulation occurrence in one egg cohort, as partial granulation, all granulation and control groups.

This review aimed to compare the clinical features and CT imaging features between patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and lung cancer and patients with PTB alone. That would help to analyse the differences between the two and consequently providing a theoretical basis for the clinical diagnosis and treatment for the patients. Relevant case-control studies focusing on the clinical and CT imaging characteristics between PTB with lung cancer and PTB alone were systematically searched from five electronic databases.

Purpose: Although the clinical effect of dienogest for endometriosis after conservative surgery has been proven, the cost-effectiveness of this new pharmacotherapy remains to be determined. We aimed to assess the health economic implications of dienogest versus a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a; goserelin in the Chinese setting.

Methods: A decision tree model was developed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of dienogest compared with a GnRH-a (goserelin) after conservative surgery for endometriosis during a 2-year time horizon from the perspective of a health care system in China.
