Background: Mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) induces cardiac inflammation cooperatively with nuclear factor-κB and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3); MR blockers exert anti-inflammatory effects. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. We investigated the anti-inflammatory effect of esaxerenone, a novel MR blocker, in experimental myocardial infarction (MI) and its underlying mechanisms.

Plastic stents are often replaced before stent dysfunction to prevent the development of cholangitis and jaundice. Therefore, the precise duration of stent patency is unclear.

However, whether thrombocytopenia also increases the bleeding risk in patients with atrial fibrillation and chronic coronary syndrome remains unclear. Methods and Results This study evaluated the AFIRE (Atrial Fibrillation and Ischemic Events With Rivaroxaban in Patients With Stable Coronary Artery Disease) trial.

This single-center retrospective analysis investigated the number of days required for postoperative 6-minute walk distance (6MWD) to recover to preoperative values after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and the factors influencing this recovery. The 6MWD was measured in 101 patients (median age 69 years; 18 women) before and every day after CABG. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify factors affecting 6MWD recovery to preoperative values after CABG.

Although colorectal cancer has been reported in patients with CCS, reports are limited regarding the effectiveness of the usage of image-enhanced endoscopy in CCS lesions. Here, we report a case of CCS in which narrow-band imaging (NBI) magnifying endoscopy was applied to detect an adenomatous component in multiple hamartomatous polyps.

Encouraged by our recent findings that 4'-cyano-deoxyguanosine (2), entecavir analogues 4 and 5 are highly potent anti-hepatitis B virus (HBV) agents, we designed and synthesized 6 having a hybridized structure of 4 and 5. The chiral quaternary carbon portion at the 4'-position, which is substituted by cyano- and 5'-hydroxymethyl groups, was stereospecifically constructed by radical-mediated 5- mode cyclization of 10. The introduction of the fluorine atom into the 6''-position was achieved by radical-mediated stannylation of sulfide ()-11 and subsequent electrophilic fluorination of ()-12.

Abstract: An 81-year-old female who had undergone coronary artery bypass grafting 15 years previously was admitted and diagnosed with coronary subclavian steal syndrome. Preoperative angiography showed backflow from the left anterior descending coronary artery to the left internal thoracic artery and occlusion of the proximal left subclavian artery.

There remains an unmet clinical need to identify which patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) would benefit from central nervous system (CNS) prophylaxis, due to the low positive predictive value (PPV; 10%-15%) of the currently available predictive models. To stratify patients at high risk of developing CNS relapse, we retrospectively analyzed 182 patients with DLBCL initially treated with rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (R-CHOP), or a R-CHOP-like regimen. Among them, 17 patients relapsed with CNS involvement, and the 2-year rate of CNS relapse was 7.

Background Among patients with atrial fibrillation and stable coronary artery disease, those with histories of atherothrombotic disease are at high-risk for future ischemic events. This study investigated the efficacy and safety of rivaroxaban monotherapy in patients with atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, and histories of atherothrombotic disease. Methods and Results This was a post hoc subanalysis of the AFIRE (Atrial Fibrillation and Ischemic Events With Rivaroxaban in Patients With Stable Coronary Artery Disease) trial.

Using transthoracic echocardiography, including 2D speckle tracking imaging (STI), this study examined cardiac function after domino liver transplantation (DLT) with liver grafts explanted from patients with hereditary amyloidogenic transthyretin amyloidosis. In all, 14 patients who underwent DLT at Kumamoto University Hospital and for whom 2D STI information was available were enrolled in the study; time-dependent echocardiographic changes were evaluated in 7. Although left ventricular (LV) systolic and diastolic function did not differ between the pre- and post-DLT periods (mean [±SD] 5.
