The Japanese Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis (JSTH) published the first-ever disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) guidelines in 2009. Fifteen years later, the JSTH developed new guidelines covering DIC associated with various underlying conditions. These guidelines were developed in accordance with the GRADE system to determine the strength of the recommendations and certainty of the evidence.

Mammalian sperm cells travel from their origin in the male reproductive tract to fertilization in the female tract through a complex process driven by coordinated mechanical and biochemical mechanisms. Recent experimental and theoretical advances have illuminated the collective behaviors of sperm both in vivo and in vitro. However, our understanding of the underlying mechano-chemical processes remains incomplete.

Clinical practice guidelines for management of disseminated intravascular coagulation in Japan 2024. Part 2: hematologic malignancy.

Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) associated with hematologic malignancies, particularly acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), is characterized by marked fibrinolytic activation, which leads to severe bleeding complications. Therefore, appropriate diagnosis and management of DIC are crucial for preventing bleeding-related mortality. However, to date, no clinical guidelines have specifically addressed hematologic malignancy-associated DIC.

Stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation for ventricular tachycardia: a review of clinical trials and emerging roles of imaging.

Ventricular tachycardia (VT) is a severe arrhythmia commonly treated with implantable cardioverter defibrillators, antiarrhythmic drugs and catheter ablation (CA). Although CA is effective in reducing recurrent VT, its impact on survival remains uncertain, especially in patients with extensive scarring. Stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation (STAR) has emerged as a novel treatment for VT in patients unresponsive to CA, leveraging techniques from stereotactic body radiation therapy used in cancer treatments.

Understanding the longitudinal association between them could be beneficial for interventions that focus on age-related cognitive and psychological health. In this study, we evaluated the longitudinal associations between cognition and psychological resilience over time in a nationally representative sample of US older adults.

Circulating tumor cells are associated with lung cancer subtypes: a large-scale retrospective study.

Background: Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) provide a unique resource to decipher cell molecular properties of lung cancer. However, the clinicopathologic and radiological features associated with CTCs in different lung cancer subtypes remain poorly characterized. The aim of this study was to explore the clinicopathological and radiological features of CTCs in different lung cancer subtypes.

Cholesterol restriction primes antiviral innate immunity via SREBP1-driven noncanonical type I IFNs.

Cholesterol metabolism is associated with innate immune responses; however, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Here, we perform chemical screening to isolate small molecules influencing RIG-I activity, a cytoplasmic viral RNA sensor. We find that statins, which inhibit cholesterol synthesis, dramatically enhance RIG-I-dependent antiviral responses in specific cell types.

Enhancing thin slice 3D T2-weighted prostate MRI with super-resolution deep learning reconstruction: Impact on image quality and PI-RADS assessment.

Purposes: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of Super-Resolution Deep Learning Reconstruction (SR-DLR) -a deep learning-based technique that enhances image resolution and quality during MRI reconstruction- in improving the image quality of thin-slice 3D T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) and Prostate Imaging-Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) assessment in prostate Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

Methods: This retrospective study included 33 patients who underwent prostate MRI with SR-DLR between November 2022 and April 2023. Thin-slice 3D-T2WI of the prostate was obtained and reconstructed with and without SR-DLR (matrix: 720 × 720 and 240 × 240, respectively).

Comparing the efficacy of sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors among non-older and older patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Large scale randomized trials have shown that sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors can reduce cardiovascular events in patients with cardiovascular disease or with increased risks of cardiovascular disease. However, the evidence from older patients is limited. To compare the efficacy of SGLT2 inhibitors among non-older and older patients we have searched PubMed, Cochrane Central, and Embase until February 2023 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating SGLT2 inhibitors in older (age ≥ 65 years) patients with diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, and chronic heart failure.

Background: Kidney complications associated with anticancer drug therapy have greatly increased recently. We aimed to investigate the real-world clinical outcomes of anticancer drug therapy-associated renal complications in Japan using the national kidney biopsy database, Japan Renal Biopsy Registry (J-RBR).

Methods: From 2018 to 2021, 449 cases from 49 facilities identified as 'drug-induced' histopathology in the J-RBR were screened, of which a total of 135 were confirmed as anticancer drug-related cases and included in the analysis.

Raman microscopy of cryofixed biological specimens for high-resolution and high-sensitivity chemical imaging.

Raman microscopy is an emerging molecular imaging technology, yet its signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in measurements of biological specimens is severely limited because of the small cross section of Raman scattering. Here, we present Raman imaging techniques of cryofixed specimens to overcome SNR limitations by enabling long exposure of specimens under highly stabilized low-temperature conditions. The observation of frozen specimens in a cryostat at a constant low temperature immediately after rapid freezing enabled the improvement of SNR and enhanced the spatial and spectral resolution.

Natural macrocyclic peptides produced by microorganisms serve as valuable resources for therapeutic compounds, including antibiotics, anticancer agents, and immune suppressive agents. Nonribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPSs) are responsible for the biosynthesis of macrocyclic peptides. NRPSs are large multimodular enzymes, and each module recognizes and incorporates one specific amino acid into the polypeptide product.

Serum Mac2-binding protein glycosylated isomer (M2BPGi) as a prognostic biomarker in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: iCAFs-derived M2BPGi drives tumor invasion.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an aggressive malignancy with a poor prognosis. Mac2-binding protein glycosylated isomer (M2BPGi), a known biomarker for liver fibrosis, is also elevated in other fibrotic tissues. However, its role in PDAC remains unexplored.

Modified RNA is eventually degraded to constituent nucleosides, and in mammals, modified nucleosides are released into the extracellular space. By contrast, the fate of modified nucleosides in bacteria remains unknown.

Refractory phenotype of -sensitized asthma with bronchiectasis and allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis.

Background: Sensitization to mucus plugs, and bacterial colonization may coexist and relate to a refractory phenotype during follow-up in asthma with bronchiectasis and allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA).

Objective: This study aimed to clarify the features of -sensitized refractory asthma with bronchiectasis and determine the refractory phenotype in this population and ABPA.

Methods: This study included cases of the oldest available -specific IgE data and chest computed tomography images from a nationwide survey of refractory asthma with bronchiectasis.
