Ventricular tachycardia (VT) is a severe arrhythmia commonly treated with implantable cardioverter defibrillators, antiarrhythmic drugs and catheter ablation (CA). Although CA is effective in reducing recurrent VT, its impact on survival remains uncertain, especially in patients with extensive scarring. Cholesterol metabolism is associated with innate immune responses; however, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Here, we perform chemical screening to isolate small molecules influencing RIG-I activity, a cytoplasmic viral RNA sensor. We find that statins, which inhibit cholesterol synthesis, dramatically enhance RIG-I-dependent antiviral responses in specific cell types.

Large scale randomized trials have shown that sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors can reduce cardiovascular events in patients with cardiovascular disease or with increased risks of cardiovascular disease. However, the evidence from older patients is limited. To compare the efficacy of SGLT2 inhibitors among non-older and older patients we have searched PubMed, Cochrane Central, and Embase until February 2023 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating SGLT2 inhibitors in older (age ≥ 65 years) patients with diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, and chronic heart failure.

Background: Kidney complications associated with anticancer drug therapy have greatly increased recently. We aimed to investigate the real-world clinical outcomes of anticancer drug therapy-associated renal complications in Japan using the national kidney biopsy database, Japan Renal Biopsy Registry (J-RBR).

Methods: From 2018 to 2021, 449 cases from 49 facilities identified as 'drug-induced' histopathology in the J-RBR were screened, of which a total of 135 were confirmed as anticancer drug-related cases and included in the analysis.

Raman microscopy is an emerging molecular imaging technology, yet its signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in measurements of biological specimens is severely limited because of the small cross section of Raman scattering. Here, we present Raman imaging techniques of cryofixed specimens to overcome SNR limitations by enabling long exposure of specimens under highly stabilized low-temperature conditions. The observation of frozen specimens in a cryostat at a constant low temperature immediately after rapid freezing enabled the improvement of SNR and enhanced the spatial and spectral resolution.
