A novel atmospheric pressure thermal ionization (APTI) ion source was developed for the analysis of liquid samples. The feasibility of the ion source was demonstrated on peptides using two configurations-assisted by hot wire or hot surface. Microalloyed molybdenum, used as a thermal ion- emitter, notably facilitated the formation of multiply-charged ions, but fragmentation products were still observed.

We studied the expression of an early activation marker CD69 in peripheral blood lymphocytes of pregnant women with a history of recurrent pregnancy loss after immunization with paternal lymphocytes. Spontaneous and phytohemagglutinin-stimulated expression of CD69 on the surface of T cells and NK cells isolated from the peripheral blood was analyzed. On gestation week 5-6, the number of T cells expressing CD69 spontaneously and after stimulation was significantly higher in women with miscarriage than in woman with prolonged pregnancy.

We analyzed the interactions between peripheral blood lymphocytes from heterologous donors with mesenchymal stem cells obtained from the tooth pulp and trophoblast. In mixed cultures, proliferation of both lymphocytes and mesenchymal stem cells was suppressed. Similar suppressive effects were observed in lymphocyte cultures mixed with epithelial cells (hepatocytes HeG2 and renal epithelial cells HEK293).

IGF-1, IGF-2, and IGFBP-1,2,3 were assayed in blood serum of patients with malignant ovarian tumors (n=44), borderline ovarian tumors (n=11), and benign ovarian tumors (n=12) as well as in healthy women (n=33). In blood serum of patients with malignant ovarian tumors, the level of IGF-1 was lower and IGFBP-1 was higher than in other groups. In patients with malignant and borderline ovarian tumors, the level of IGFBP-2 was higher than in healthy women and in patients with benign ovarian tumors.

Anti-HLA-antibodies were detected using cross-reaction of blood serum with allogenic T and B cells and latex microspheres coated with HLA-I and HLA-II antigens. HLA+ and HLA-sera obtained from women before and after allogeneic immunization were tested. The results obtained by these methods significantly differed.

We studied the expression of TLR4 (Toll-like receptor 4) in the syncytiotrophoblast and vascular endothelial cells of terminal and stem placental villi in severe preeclampsia and normal pregnancy. In women of both groups, the expression of TLR4 was higher in the syncytiotrophoblast that in placental endothelial cells. Here we studied the cytoprotective effect of lithium chloride and sodium valproate in the in vivo model of neonatal cerebral ischemia/hypoxia and analyzed the influence of these substances on the death of the major neurovascular unit components in experimental ischemia in vitro. Lithium chloride and sodium valproate effectively prevented death of neurons, astrocytes, and endothelial cells in the oxygen-glucose deprivation. This treatment protected the brain of newborn rats from ischemia/hypoxia injury.

Culture-based study of the faecal microbiome in two adult female subjects revealed the presence of two obligately anaerobic, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped, non-motile, Gram-negative bacterial strains that represent novel species. The first strain, designated 627T, was a fastidious, slow-growing, indole-positive bacterium with a non-fermentative type of metabolism.The strain was characterized by the production of acetic and succinic acids as metabolic end products, the prevalence of iso-C15 : 0 fatty acid and the presence of menaquinones MK-10 and MK-11.

We analyzed sensitivity of 123 vaginal lactobacillus strains to antibacterial substances. All lactobacillus strains were sensitive to ampicillin, cefazolin, cefotaxime, and vancomycin, and insensitive to metronidazole, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, and levofloxacin. Lactobacillus strains demonstrated different sensitivity to gentamycin, clindamycin, erythromycin, ciprofloxacin, and tetracycline.

Comparative morphometric evaluation of the quantitative characteristics of vessels in hepatic focal nodular hyperplasia tissue was carried out on preparations stained with hematoxylin and eosin and by immunohistochemical detection of CD34 and CD105. Analysis of histological preparations stained with hematoxylin and eosin allowed the most ample characterization. Immunohistochemical detection of CD34 promoted better visualization of endotheliocytes, but just some sinusoids in the preparations were labeled.

We conducted a comparative morphological study of placentas from women with gestational diabetes and diabetes mellitus. Morphometry of histological preparations revealed similar type of changes in the studied parameters of placental villi in diabetes mellitus and gestational diabetes. The maximum deviation of the studied parameters from the control was noted in type 1 diabetes mellitus.
