The article addresses stress formation in the structural 3D-printed elements of a high-pressure die casting die mould used for production of aluminum castings. The 3D-printed elements with conformal cooling are manufactured of 18Ni300 powder. Initial numerical calculations were performed on a test die mould made of standard steel X40CrMoV5 to determine temperature distribution and stress state, providing a baseline for comparing 3D-printed 18Ni300 parts.

Difluorinated sulfonamide porphyrin (FPGly) and bacteriochlorin (FBGly), modified by glycine residues, were synthesized and evaluated for photodynamic therapy (PDT). F₂PGly exhibits superior stability and singlet oxygen generation efficiency but features a low-intensity band in the red range (λ = 639 nm). In contrast, FBGly shows a favorable, red-shifted absorption spectrum (λ = 746 nm) that aligns well with phototherapeutic window, facilitating deeper tissue penetration.

Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology, Jagiellonian University, Gronostajowa 7, Krakow, 30-387, Poland.

Programmed death receptor 1, PD1, modulates the function of immune cells by providing inhibitory signals and constitutes the marker of immune exhaustion. Monitoring the level of PD1 promises a useful diagnostic approach in autoimmune diseases and cancer. Here we describe the development of an ssDNA aptamer-based molecular probe capable of specific recognition of human PD1 receptor.

Gesture recognition has become a significant part of human-machine interaction, particularly when verbal interaction is not feasible. The rapid development of biomedical sensing and machine learning algorithms, including electromyography (EMG) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs), has enabled the interpretation of sign languages, including the Polish Sign Language, based on EMG signals. The objective was to classify the game control gestures and Polish Sign Language gestures recorded specifically for this study using two different data acquisition systems: BIOPAC MP36 and MyoWare 2.

Machine Learning-Based Gesture Recognition Glove: Design and Implementation.

Sensors (Basel)

September 2024

Institute for Medical Informatics, University of Lübeck, Ratzeburger Allee 160, 23562 Lübeck, Germany.

In the evolving field of human-computer interaction (HCI), gesture recognition has emerged as a critical focus, with smart gloves equipped with sensors playing one of the most important roles. Despite the significance of dynamic gesture recognition, most research on data gloves has concentrated on static gestures, with only a small percentage addressing dynamic gestures or both. This study explores the development of a low-cost smart glove prototype designed to capture and classify dynamic hand gestures for game control and presents a prototype of data gloves equipped with five flex sensors, five force sensors, and one inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor.

Tetraphenyloporphyrin derivatives are a useful scaffold for developing new pharmaceuticals for photodynamic therapy (PDT) and the photodiagnosis (PD) of cancer. We synthesized new sulfonamide fluorinated porphyrin derivatives and investigated their potential as photosensitizers and real-time bioimaging agents for cancer. We found that 5,10,15,20-tetrakis-[2',3',5',6'-tetrafluoro-4'-methanesulfamidyl)phenyl]bacteriochlorin () has intense absorption and fluorescence in the near-infrared, efficiently generates singlet oxygen and hydroxyl radicals, has low toxicity in the dark, and high phototoxicity.

Raman imaging unveils heme uptake in endothelial cells.

Sci Rep

Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science, AGH University of Krakow, al. A. Mickiewicza 30, 30-059, Kraków, Poland.

Heme released from damaged and senescent red blood cells (RBCs) may contribute to oxidant-mediated cell injury. One of the recently investigated physiological processes, essential in preventing the inflammatory impact of labile heme, is its uptake from the bloodstream by endothelial cells (ECs). In this study, we investigated heme uptake by ECs starting from the model studies on the in vitro cellular level, through the endothelium layer on the ex vivo murine aortic tissues.

The purpose of this work is to present a multivariate analysis of the kinematics of an upper limb rehabilitation robot. Comparing multiple concepts of kinematic chains makes it possible to identify advantages and disadvantages and, as a consequence, choosing the optimal solution to create a physical device. Such actions shall contribute towards automation of the rehabilitation process, bringing benefits to both therapists and patients in comparison with conventional rehabilitation.

Various cationic photosensitizers employed in antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) have the ability to photoinactivate planktonic bacteria under conditions of low phototoxicity to mammalian cells and without generating antimicrobial resistance (AMR). However, the photoinactivation of biofilms requires orders-of-magnitude higher photosensitizer concentrations, which become toxic to host cells. Remarkably, the bactericidal effect of a dicationic di-imidazolyl chlorin toward planktonic and was observed in this work for concentrations below 400 nM under illumination at 660 nm and below 50 μM for the corresponding biofilms.

Interest in composite thick coatings with an intermetallic matrix stimulates the development of new deposition techniques like the co-milling of pre-alloyed NiAl powder with platelet-shaped substrates. Obtained coatings were up to several micrometers thick as cold-welding of intermetallic particles was effective only at the start of this process, while later, chipping prevailed over added material. The present experiment covered the co-milling in the planetary ball mill of Ni and Al elemental powders (1:1 molar ratio) with AISI 304 steel platelets for 32 h at 300 rpm.

The manuscript presents the potential of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) for label-free characterization of extracellular microvesicles (EVs) and their isolated membranes derived from red blood cells (RBCs) at the nanoscale and at the single-molecule level, providing detection of a few individual amino acids, protein and lipid membrane compartments. The study shows future directions for research, such as investigating the use of the mentioned techniques for the detection and diagnosis of diseases. We demonstrate that SERS and TERS are powerful techniques for identifying the biochemical composition of EVs and their membranes, allowing the detection of small molecules, lipids, and proteins.
