A cross- sectional study of refugees in Norway and Serbia: Levels of mental distress and social-demographic risk factors.

This cross-sectional study has assessed and compared symptoms of anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among one refugee group during flight (in Serbia) and another refugee group after flight (in Norway). Results indicate high levels of mental distress in both samples of refugees (Serbia: = 100, Norway: = 78). Participants in Serbia reported higher levels of symptoms than the participants in Norway.

Albania and Kosovo-Albania Immigrants' Perceptions of Mental Well-Being and the Psychological Challenges Faced in Malaysia.

Background: Immigrants who relocate to a foreign country often face numerous stressors and challenges as they try to assimilate to a new culture. This transition can often have a significant impact on their mental well-being. In this qualitative study, we aim to explore and examine the life experiences of 16 Albanian and Kosovo-Albania immigrants who have settled in Malaysia, as well as those who previously resided in Malaysia but are now living in Australia and Albania.

The development of targeted phthalazine-1,4-dione acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors for treating Alzheimer's disease involved the synthesis of 32 compounds via a multistage process. Although most are usually classified as prescription-only medicines, in many countries they are frequently purchased for self-medication purposes. This study explores NSAID-usage patterns in Kosovo, aiming for a safer and more effective medicinal use.

Smoking and Hypertriglyceridemia Predict ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction in Kosovo Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction.

Background: Myocardial infarction (MI), presented as ST-segment elevation MI (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation MI (NSTEMI), is influenced by atherosclerosis risk factors.

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the patterns of presentation of patients with acute MI in Kosovo.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo, which included all patients hospitalized with acute MI over a period of 7 years.

Background: Most of the people with Down syndrome have short stature compared to general population. There is also a high prevalence of overweight and obesity, mainly in the adolescence and in the adult life. The aim of this study was to compare some anthropometric parameters, heart rate and blood pressure of children with Down syndrome and those with normal development.

Background: Ticks are obligate hematophagous ectoparasites involved in transmitting viruses of public health importance. The objective of this work was to identify the Jingmen tick virus in hard ticks from the Colombian Caribbean, an arbovirus of importance for public health.

Methods: Ticks were collected in rural areas of Córdoba and Cesar, Colombia.

Deep-eutectic solvents (DES) have emerged as promising candidates for preparing nanocomposites. In this study, a DES-based graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN)/ZnO/Chitosan (Ch) nanocomposite was synthesized to remove malachite green (MG) dye from water. The DES was prepared by mixing and heating citric acid as a hydrogen bond acceptor and lactic acid as a hydrogen bond donor.

A 74-Year-Old Man with Severe Comorbidities and Successful Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair with Thoracic Segmental Spinal Anesthesia: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Elderly patients with severe or multiple comorbidities can be at high risk for complications of general anesthesia. This report is of a 74-year-old man with severe comorbidities, including ischemic heart disease (IHD) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and successful abdominal aortic aneurysm repair with thoracic segmental spinal anesthesia. CASE REPORT The patient, aged 74, had previously been diagnosed with severe COPD and IHD.

Introduction: Between 2021 and 2023, a project was funded in order to explore the mortality burden (YLL-Years of Life Lost, excess mortality) of COVID-19 in Southern and Eastern Europe, and Central Asia.

Methods: For each national or sub-national region, data on COVID-19 deaths and population data were collected for the period March 2020 to December 2021. Unstandardized and age-standardised YLL rates were calculated according to standard burden of disease methodology.

Prevalence and Treatment Outcomes of Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in Kosovo.

Advances in research, including novel biomarker identification and patient stratification, have significantly improved the therapy for childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), though access to improved healthcare services varies across geographical regions. In an effort to evaluate the advances in therapeutic approaches, we performed a retrospective analysis of childhood ALL in Kosovo. Our retrospective analysis included 225 cases diagnosed between 2008 and 2023, representing 52% of 429 diagnosed childhood cancers.

Efficacity of hyperbaric oxygen therapy for necrotizing fasciitis in the maxillofacial region: The review of the literature.

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rare, dangerous, potentially fatal infectious disease of soft tissue. The treatment consists of antibiotic therapy, surgical debridement and subsequent reconstruction. Cytotoxic activity of liposomal essential oil on HT-29 human colorectal cancer cell line.

Multidrug resistance, severe side effects, and high cancer treatment costs are still well-known issues and remain an open challenge. These factors reduce the therapy's efficiency and safety, seriously affecting human health. Developing therapeutic approaches based on plant extracts, especially based on essential oils with cytotoxic and antioxidant properties, could be of efficacious strategies.

[Initial in-hospital treatment of patients with penetrating trauma due to violence and war].

Background: Current political and social developments have brought the topics of violence, in this context attributable to terrorism and sabotage, and since February 2022 awareness of war in particular has again greatly increased. This article aims to present the contextualized dealing with penetrating injuries in terms of initial in-hospital treatment.

Objective: The question remains to be answered as to what extent penetrating injuries require special attention and to what extent the treatment priorities, options and strategies as well as surgical treatment require adaptation of the usual approach in routine clinical practice in Germany.

Background: Despite growing interest in workplace mental health interventions, evidence of their effectiveness is mixed. Implementation science offers a valuable lens to investigate the factors influencing successful implementation. However, evidence synthesis is lacking, especially for small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and for specific work sectors.
