Background: The potential benefits of robotic-assisted compared with laparoscopic surgery for locally advanced cancer have not been sufficiently proven by prospective studies. One factor is speculated to be the lack of strict surgeon criteria. The aim of this study was to assess outcomes for robotic surgery in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer with strict surgeon experience criteria.

This study aimed to assess the frequency and association between transthyretin-derived (ATTR) amyloidosis and sarcoidosis in a large autopsy cohort including many cases of sudden cardiac death (SCD). We identified 73 sporadic ATTR amyloidosis cases and 11 sarcoidosis cases, among which we found two cases with concomitant ATTR amyloidosis and sarcoidosis (2.4% of all cases; 2.

Here, we showed our clinicopathological findings of infected aortic aneurysm (IAA) with Pasteurella multocida, which is a Gram-negative coccobacillus and is part of the normal oral flora of many animals. The patient was a 76-year-old male animal owner with a history of diabetes mellitus, alcoholic liver damage, and laryngeal cancer. He died 16 days after admission without undergoing operation because of poor general condition.

Antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) predominantly affects small vessels. Almost all AAV patients are positive for myeloperoxidase- or proteinase 3-ANCA, and ANCA plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of AAV. We herein report an ANCA-negative AAV patient with pauci-immune necrotizing glomerulonephritis and plasma cell-rich tubulointerstitial nephritis who was complicated with pleuritis and digital ischemia.

Surgery for rectal cancer patients with an ileal conduit after total cystectomy is difficult because adhesions in the pelvis and around the ileal conduit are expected. In the present case, we performed robot-assisted low anterior resection of the rectum in a 69-year-old male patient with rectal cancer who underwent ileal conduit diversion after total cystectomy. In this procedure, the port was inserted into the left upper abdomen as a first step, and two additional ports were added on the left side.

An 81-year-old man was referred to our hospital for anal bleeding. Colonoscopy revealed a type 3 tumor at the upper rectum and biopsy showed adenocarcinoma. An enhanced circumferential lesion at the upper rectum and a solitary soft-tissue shadow at the fifth sacral vertebra to the coccyx were detected on abdominal magnetic resonance imaging.

Seronegative rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is less likely to have extra-articular manifestations than seropositive RA. An 80-year-old man with polyarthritis was diagnosed with seronegative RA in which rheumatoid factors and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptides were not detected. He had multiple pulmonary nodules that diminished in size following treatment for RA, leading to the diagnosis of pulmonary rheumatoid nodules.

Previously, we established a semi-opened circular specimen processing method and validated its feasibility. In the PRODUCT trial, we aimed to assess CRM in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer who underwent laparoscopic rectal resection.

Double inferior vena cava (DIVC) is a rare but generally asymptomatic condition that is often detected incidentally by radiological examinations such as computed tomography (CT). Here, we describe the case of a 73-year-old woman with DIVC, who underwent robot-assisted surgery (RS) for rectal cancer. In this case, 3D CT angiography showed DIVC with an interiliac vein from the left common iliac vein and a tortuous aorta.

A prospective study was conducted on 33 eyes of 33 patients with open-angle glaucoma who underwent trabeculectomy to investigate hemodynamic changes in the temporal optic nerve head (ONH) and peripapillary atrophy (PPA) after trabeculectomy. Laser speckle flowgraphy of ONH and PPA was performed at baseline and at 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively. The waveforms of the mean blur rate in the tissue area (MT) in the temporal ONH, βPPA (with Bruch's membrane), and γPPA (without Bruch's membrane) were evaluated.

Localization of ectopic cyclic Cushing's syndrome, which causes life-threatening complications, is challenging. A 70-year-old woman showed cyclic hypokalemia and hyperglycemia and was diagnosed with cyclic ectopic Cushing's syndrome. Although somatostatin-receptor scintigraphy failed to localize the responsible tumor, fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) showed the uptake of tracer in a lung tumor.

Purpose: To elucidate the relationship between changes in the choroidal structure and blood flow of the macula after trabeculectomy.
Methods: A prospective study of 30 eyes of 30 patients with glaucoma who underwent trabeculectomy. Enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography with choroidal image binarization and laser speckle flowgraphy of the macula were performed at baseline and 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively.

A 69-year-old woman underwent abdominoperineal resection for a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) of the rectum 15 years ago. She received adjuvant chemotherapy for 8 years. Seven years later, abdominal computed tomography revealed a soft-tissue shadow in the left lower abdomen, and fluorodeoxyglucose uptake was observed at the same site on positron emission tomography.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are clinically used for treating advanced lung cancer, and some patients have achieved complete remission (CR) with ICI therapy in clinical trials. However, reports summarizing the clinical courses of such patients are limited. We report two cases of lung adenocarcinoma in which CR was achieved with first-line pembrolizumab monotherapy, and the therapeutic effect was maintained after treatment completion.

Background: Median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS), which results from compression of the median arcuate ligament (MAL), is a rare cause of abdominal pain and weight loss. Treatment is dissection of the MAL; however, the laparoscopic procedure is not yet established and it involves the risk of major vascular injury, especially in cases with an anomaly.
Case Presentation: A 47-year-old man was evaluated at the hospital for epigastric pain.

Aims: Dedifferentiation is a histological phenomenon characterised by abrupt transition of histology to a sarcomatous component with high-grade malignant potential in solitary fibrous tumour (SFT). The authors histologically reviewed SFT cases to reveal the histological background of dedifferentiated SFTs.
Methods: Clinicopathological and histopathological findings of 145 SFT cases were reviewed.
