Herbal formulae (HFs) are representative interventions in Korean medicine (KM) for the prevention and treatment of various diseases. Here, we proposed a machine learning-based approach for HF recommendation with enhanced interpretability and applicability. A dataset consisting of clinical symptoms, Sasang constitution (SC) types, and prescribed HFs was derived from a multicenter study.

Introduction: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a non-neoplastic proliferative disease of the prostate. (EV) reportedly possesses various pharmacological activities, including anti-lipase activity and modulation of various antioxidative enzymes. In this study, we investigate the therapeutic potential of EV against BPH in a testosterone-induced BPH rat model.

Background: The energy flow at acupuncture point is important for understanding the mechanism of acupuncture treatment. However, there are few studies on energy at acupuncture point, and related studies have limitation in explaining the energy flow in all meridians. Thus, we aimed to understand the properties of electrical energy at acupuncture point in twelve meridians by measuring the biopotential at acupuncture and non-acupuncture points.

Objective: As a component of Endosomal Sorting Complex Required for Transport (ESCRT) complex I, the tumor susceptibility gene 101 (Tsg101) carries out multiple functions. In this work, we report that oocyte-specific deletion of tumor susceptibility gene 101 (Tsg101) leads to age-dependent oocyte demise in mice.
Materials And Method: Tsg101 floxed mice (Tsg101 ) were bred with Zp3 transgenic mice to examine oocyte-specific roles of Tsg101.

This study comparatively assessed seven indigenous traditional tea plants on several attributes that included antioxidant, nutritional, caffeine contents, and cyclooxygenase activity. Nutritional content of all tea plants were determined for energy, fat, carbohydrates, total sugars, dietary fiber and amino acids. Antioxidant potential and the antioxidant potentiating secondary metabolites were also measured and compared.

Background: Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a disorder of gut-brain interaction, and its putative pathophysiology involves dysregulation of gastric motility and central processing of gastric afference. The vagus nerve modulates gastric peristalsis and carries afferent sensory information to brainstem nuclei, specifically the nucleus tractus solitarii (NTS). Here, we combine MRI assessment of gastric kinematics with measures of NTS functional connectivity to the brain in patients with FD and healthy controls (HC), in order to elucidate how gut-brain axis communication is associated with FD pathophysiology.

Gastroesophageal reflux-induced chronic cough (GERC) is one of the most common etiologies of chronic cough. Despite the growing prevalence and interest in GERC, no effective treatment is currently available. In our study, we used a combination of herbal medicines, (OJS) plus (SMS), for the treatment of GERC.

Acute bronchitis and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis (AECB) have cough and sputum as the main symptoms with a high prevalence and substantial economic burden. Although the demand for bronchitis treatment increases due to causes, such as air pollution, the appropriateness of antibiotic prescriptions and the effects of current symptomatic treatments for bronchitis are unclear. GHX02, which is a combined formulation containing four herbs, and has been clinically used for bronchitis in South Korea.

Although Electroacupuncture (EA) has been reported to be potentially effective for cognitive disorders, there is limited information about which domains of cognitive function can be improved by EA treatment. Sixty patients with MCI were randomly assigned (1:1:1) to groups to receive 24 sessions over 12 weeks of EA, sham EA, or usual care. In the EA group, electric stimulation was applied at bilateral PC6 and HT7.

Previous studies arguing that functional dysphagia could be explained by underlying neurobiological mechanisms are insufficient to explain brain regions that functionally interact in patients with functional dysphagia. Therefore, we investigated functional connectivity changes associated with functional dysphagia after applying facilitatory repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on the supplementary motor area (SMA). A patient with severe long-lasting functional dysphagia and 15 healthy controls participated in this study.

Despite numerous efforts to overcome neuropathic pain, various pharmacological drugs often fail to meet the needs and have many side effects. Muscovite is an aluminosilicate mineral that has been reported to have an anti-inflammatory effect, but the efficacy of muscovite for neuropathic pain has not been investigated. Here, we assessed whether muscovite nanoparticles can reduce the symptoms of pain by controlling the inflammatory process observed in neuropathic pain.

Noninvasive measures of neuroinflammatory processes in humans could substantially aid diagnosis and therapeutic development for many disorders, including chronic pain. Several proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (H-MRS) metabolites have been linked with glial activity (ie, choline and myo-inositol) and found to be altered in chronic pain patients, but their role in the neuroinflammatory cascade is not well known. Our multimodal study evaluated resting functional magnetic resonance imaging connectivity and H-MRS metabolite concentration in insula cortex in 43 patients suffering from fibromyalgia, a chronic centralized pain disorder previously demonstrated to include a neuroinflammatory component, and 16 healthy controls.

Background: Electroacupuncture (EA) is often used in clinical settings due to its analgesic effect, but its safety has not been verified due to the lack of clear criteria. This study examined the critical range of the corrosion of stainless steel types STS304 and STS316, which have been used clinically, and the relationship between needle corrosion and cell necrosis.
Method: The critical point of corrosion for STS304 and STS316 was identified by varying the time, frequency, and stimulation intensity.
