Allergy Asthma Immunol Res

November 2024

Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea.

The concept of cough hypersensitivity suggests that central sensitization plays a role in the pathophysiology of chronic cough. The association between pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (PEI) and morphologic findings in chronic pancreatitis has not yet been fully studied. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between PEI severity and computed tomography (CT)-based morphological severity in patients with chronic pancreatitis. This nationwide survey included 180 Korean participants with chronic pancreatitis aged 18 years or older between January 2018 and December 2021.

Background: Embryo-endometrium cross-talk is one of the critical processes for implantation, and unsuccessful cross-talk leads to infertility. We established an endometrium-embryo (or embryoid bodies, hEBs) in vitro model in 2D and 3D conditions and assessed its potential through the fusion of embryos and the expression of specific markers.

Methods: C57BL/6 mouse embryos and human embryoid body (hEB) derived from embryonic stem cells were prepared as embryo models.

Objective: Dentists encounter unique occupational challenges, including stress, depression, and anxiety, that can impact their mental well-being. Therefore, it is essential to identify dentists' mental health statuses and the factors influencing them. Understanding the heterogeneity in dentists' mental health is crucial for tailored interventions.

Article Synopsis
  • * The recent term MAFLD improves upon NAFLD by including metabolic dysfunction in its diagnosis, simplifying the criteria for identification.
  • * A new classification named steatotic liver disease (SLD) has emerged in 2023, which further categorizes liver diseases based on metabolic dysfunction, with the term MASLD gaining support for its clearer diagnostic approach.

Article Synopsis
  • Biportal endoscopic spinal surgery, particularly biportal endoscopic transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (BE-TLIF), has gained popularity and shown good results for treating lumbar degenerative diseases.
  • A study compared outcomes of 155 patients who underwent BE-TLIF versus open posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF), with BE-TLIF resulting in significantly better reductions in back pain at 1 and 6 months post-surgery.
  • Both techniques had similar radiological outcomes and fusion rates, but BE-TLIF had a longer operation time while PLIF resulted in higher blood loss; overall, BE-TLIF is positioned as a viable alternative to PLIF with early benefits in pain relief.

Immunogenic clearance combined with PD-1 blockade elicits antitumor effect by promoting the recruitment and expansion of the effector memory-like CD8T cell.

KU-KIST Graduate School of Converging Science and Technology, Korea University, Seoul 02841, Republic of Korea; Biomedical Research Institute, Korea Institute of Science and Technology, Seoul 02792, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Immune checkpoint inhibition shows promise for cancer treatment, but only a minority of patients respond. Combination strategies have been explored to overcome this resistance. Combining immunogenic clearance using immunogenic cell death inducers with a rho kinase inhibitor enhances phagocytosis of immunogenically dying cancer cells by antigen-presenting cells, stimulating tumor-specific immune responses by activating CD8T cells via dendritic cell-mediated priming.

Background: Thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA), once the standard for pain management in major abdominal operations, is associated with postoperative complications, making preperitoneal continuous wound infiltration (CWI) a promising alternative. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of CWI and TEA in managing postoperative pain after open pancreatoduodenectomy.

Methods: In a single-centre, randomized, open-label non-inferiority trial, adult patients undergoing elective open pancreatoduodenectomy were assigned to either CWI or TEA for pain management.

Privacy-Preserving Synthetic Data Generation Method for IoT-Sensor Network IDS Using CTGAN.

Sensors (Basel)

November 2024

Division of AI Software Convergence, Dongguk University, Seoul 04620, Republic of Korea.

The increased usage of IoT networks brings about new privacy risks, especially when intrusion detection systems (IDSs) rely on large datasets for machine learning (ML) tasks and depend on third parties for storing and training the ML-based IDS. This study proposes a privacy-preserving synthetic data generation method using a conditional tabular generative adversarial network (CTGAN) aimed at maintaining the utility of IoT sensor network data for IDS while safeguarding privacy. We integrate differential privacy (DP) with CTGAN by employing controlled noise injection to mitigate privacy risks.

We aimed to develop imaging biomarkers to predict radiation pneumonitis (RP) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients undergoing thoracic radiotherapy. We hypothesized that measuring morphometric complexity in the lung using simulation computed tomography may provide objective imaging biomarkers for lung parenchyma integrity, potentially forecasting the risk of RP. A retrospective study was performed on medical records of 175 patients diagnosed with NSCLC who had received thoracic radiotherapy.
