This study aimed to investigate the short-term variability of ocular biometric measurements and to analyze the factors associated with high variability of biometric values in patients with cataract. This retrospective study included 60 eyes of 60 patients who underwent ocular biometry twice with the IOLMaster 700 (March to November 2023). Ocular surface parameters included tear film break-up time (TBUT), corneal and conjunctival staining scores (CSS/ConSS).

High-dose melphalan at 200 mg/m (MEL-200) is the standard conditioning regimen before autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). Busulfan (BU) and cyclophosphamide (CY) can be used as alternatives when MEL is unavailable. However, most studies on BU/CY conditioning regimens were conducted before proteasome inhibitors (PIs) and immunomodulatory drugs (IMIDs) were available.

We introduce an advanced model for predicting protein-ligand interactions. Our approach combines the strengths of graph neural networks with physics-based scoring methods. Existing structure-based machine-learning models for protein-ligand binding prediction often fall short in practical virtual screening scenarios, hindered by the intricacies of binding poses, the chemical diversity of drug-like molecules, and the scarcity of crystallographic data for protein-ligand complexes.

Introduction: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been linked to allergic diseases but their effects on sensitisation to allergens in individuals with asthma are unknown. We aimed to identify miRNAs associated with house dust mite (HDM) sensitisation in childhood asthma.
Methods: Serum samples from 1126 children with asthma who participated in the Genetics of Asthma in Costa Rica Study (GACRS) were profiled for 304 miRNAs.

Cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome (CHS) is a serious complication after bypass surgery in Moyamoya disease (MMD), with autoregulatory dysfunction being a major pathogenesis. This study investigated the change of perioperative autoregulation and preoperative prognostic potentials in MMD with postoperative CHS. Among 26 hemispheres in 24 patients with adult MMD undergoing combined bypass, 13 hemispheres experienced postoperative CHS.

Mitochondrial dysfunction induced by mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations has been implicated in various human diseases. A comprehensive analysis of mitochondrial genetic disorders requires suitable animal models for human disease studies. While gene knockout via premature stop codons is a powerful method for investigating the unique functions of target genes, achieving knockout of mtDNA has been rare.

Background: The arterial to end-tidal carbon dioxide gradient (P [a-Et] CO) reveals the ventilation-perfusion (V/Q) status of critically ill patients. V/Q mismatch has several causes and affects the clinical outcomes of critically ill patients. We investigated the relationship between P (a-Et) CO and the clinical outcomes in critically ill patients.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the effect of the lesion sets for surgical ablation of atrial fibrillation on long-term outcomes and identify the optimal lesion set.
Methods: Between 2005 and 2017, 1825 patients underwent surgical ablation concomitant to mitral valve surgery in the participating institutions. Of these, 529 underwent left atrial ablation, whereas the remainder had biatrial ablation.

Regulatory T cells (Tregs) establish dominant immune tolerance but obstruct tumor immune surveillance, warranting context-specific mechanistic insights into the functions of tumor-infiltrating Tregs (TIL-Tregs). We show that enhanced posttranslational O-linked N-acetylglucosamine modification (O-GlcNAcylation) of cellular factors is a molecular feature that promotes a tumor-specific gene expression signature and distinguishes TIL-Tregs from their systemic counterparts. We found that altered glucose utilization through the glucose transporter Glut3 is a major facilitator of this process.

While obesity, rapid weight loss, and sedentary lifestyles contribute to gallstones, the impacts of long-term weight patterns and physical activity on gallstone risk have not been extensively studied at the population level. Using Korea's population-based health database, we created a cohort of 5,062,154 subjects who received over five consecutive biannual health check-ups from 2002 to 2018. Gallstone risk was calculated using hazard ratios (HRs) based on weight patterns (gain, loss, and cycling) and physical activity.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neuro-degenerative disorder most common in older adults which is associated with impairments in movement and other body functions. Most PD cases are classified as idiopathic PD (IPD), meaning that the etiology remains unidentified.
Objective: To identify key genes and molecular mechanisms to identify biomarkers applicable to IPD.

Background: The transcriptomic profile of cellular senescence is strongly associated with distinct cell types, the specific stressors triggering senescence, and temporal progression through senescence stages. This implies the potential necessity of conducting separate investigations for each cell type and a stressor inducing senescence. To elucidate the molecular mechanism that drives endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-induced cellular senescence in MCF-7 breast cancer cells, with a particular emphasis on the ATF6α branch of the unfolded protein response.

Introduction: Although the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasing in the aging population, the clinical relevance of the CKD definition (glomerular filtration rate [GFR] <60 mL/min/1.73 m2) in older populations remains debatable. We investigated the clinical outcomes in older populations with mildly to moderately decreased GFR (45-59 mL/min/1.
