An optimal protective ventilation strategy in lung resection surgery: a prospective, single-center, three-arm randomized controlled trial.

Protective ventilation reduces ventilator-induced acute lung injury postoperatively; however, the optimal strategy for one-lung ventilation (OLV) remains unclear. This study compared three protective ventilation strategies with a postoperative partial pressure of oxygen (PaO)/fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO) ratio to reduce the incidence of immediate postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) in patients undergoing lung resection surgery. Eighty-seven patients with ASA physical status I-III requiring OLV for lung resection surgery were randomized into three groups according to the applied ventilation strategies: low tidal volume (V) of 4 mL/kg of predicted body weight (PBW) (LV group), medium V of 6 mL/kg of PBW (MV group), and high V of 8 mL/kg of PBW (HV group).

Pembrolizumab and chemotherapy in high-risk, early-stage, ER/HER2 breast cancer: a randomized phase 3 trial.

We conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 3 study (KEYNOTE-756) in which patients with previously untreated ER/HER2 grade 3 high-risk invasive breast cancer (T1c-2 (≥2 cm), cN1-2 or T3-4, cN0-2) were randomly assigned (1:1) to neoadjuvant pembrolizumab 200 mg or placebo Q3W given with paclitaxel QW for 12 weeks, followed by four cycles of doxorubicin or epirubicin plus cyclophosphamide Q2W or Q3W.

Effect of intracameral air injection during Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation on hypertensive phase.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the difference in the incidence of the hypertensive phase (HP) between Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) patients who received intracameral air injection and those who did not. A total of 78 patients who underwent AGV surgery between January 1, 2016 and June 30, 2023 were included in this retrospective study. HP was defined as intraocular pressure (IOP) greater than 21 mmHg within the first 6 postoperative months.

Predicting branch retinal vein occlusion development using multimodal deep learning and pre-onset fundus hemisection images.

Branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) is a leading cause of visual impairment in working-age individuals, though predicting its occurrence from retinal vascular features alone remains challenging. We developed a deep learning model to predict BRVO based on pre-onset, metadata-matched fundus hemisection images. This retrospective cohort study included patients diagnosed with unilateral BRVO from two Korean tertiary centers (2005-2023), using hemisection fundus images from 27 BRVO-affected eyes paired with 81 unaffected hemisections (27 counter and 54 contralateral) for training.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the performance of PBIA (UIMD, Seoul, Republic of Korea), an automated digital morphology analyzer using deep learning, for white blood cell (WBC) classification in peripheral blood smears and compare it with the widely used DI-60 (Sysmex, Kobe, Japan).

Study Design: A prospective study was performed in pregnant women admitted to maternal-fetal intensive care unit in Seoul National University Bundang Hospital from June to August 2023. Twenty one patients were enrolled (9 singleton and 12 twin pregnancies) and underwent BIA at the admission.
