This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Lactiplantibacillus argentoratensis AGMB00912 (LA) in reducing Salmonella Typhimurium infection in weaned piglets. The investigation focused on the influence of LA on the gut microbiota composition, growth performance, and Salmonella fecal shedding. The results indicated that LA supplementation significantly improved average daily gain and reduced the prevalence and severity of diarrhea.

Targeting the hydrophobic Phe43 pocket of HIV's envelope glycoprotein gp120 is a critical strategy for antiviral interventions due to its role in interacting with the host cell's CD4. Previous inhibitors, including small molecules and CD4 mimetic peptides based on scyllatoxin, have demonstrated significant binding and neutralization capabilities but were often chemically synthesized or contained non-canonical amino acids. Microbial expression using natural amino acids offers advantages such as cost-effectiveness, scalability, and efficient production of fusion proteins.

Mortalin (encoded by HSPA9) is a mitochondrial chaperone often overexpressed in cancer through as-yet-unknown mechanisms. By searching different RNA-sequencing datasets, we found that ESRRA is a transcription factor highly correlated with HSPA9 in thyroid cancer, especially in follicular, but not C cell-originated, tumors. Consistent with this correlation, ESRRA depletion decreased mortalin expression only in follicular thyroid tumor cells.

Approved COVID-19 vaccines primarily induce neutralizing antibodies targeting the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein. However, the emergence of variants of concern with RBD mutations poses challenges to vaccine efficacy. This study aimed to design a next-generation vaccine that provides broader protection against diverse coronaviruses, focusing on glycan-free S2 peptides as vaccine candidates to overcome the low immunogenicity of the S2 domain due to the N-linked glycans on the S antigen stalk, which can mask S2 antibody responses.

Background: SETDB1 (SET domain bifurcated-1) is a histone H3-lysine 9 (H3K9)-specific methyltransferase that mediates heterochromatin formation and repression of target genes. Despite the assumed functional link between DNA methylation and SETDB1-mediated H3K9 trimethylations, several studies have shown that SETDB1 operates autonomously of DNA methylation in a region- and cell-specific manner.
